Yes and no.

When there is proof an alegation was false, it is taken seriously.

But in the vast majority of false allegations, the charges are dropped due to lack of evidence. The reason there is a lack of evidence is that there was no rape, but law enforcement knows it's very difficult to prove a negative, and they don't have the time and resources to invenstigate every case of rape allegation where the evidence doesn't support the charge.

So the vast majority of false rape allegations just go away with no consequences to the false accuser.

Not anywhere near seriously enough. People make false allegations, they drag the man's name through the mud in the court of public opinion, then when it turns out to be bullshit, no one says a word. Everyone just tries to move on like this is some live and let live shit.

If I sound slightly aggressive or bitter about all that, it's because I've had false allegations made about me. Lots of people I thought were friends got real scarce. Situations like that really let you know who is who.

I personally think not serious enough. I think if someone falsifies rape in any case - the charges should be reversed and put onto the person that lied
