What is your opinion on false rape accusations?

Three years back, an acquaintance of mine was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the alleged rape of a girl from his college. The case was reopened upon some new findings before Covid-related lockdown deferred it. Courts opened recently in my region, and two subsequent hearings were enough to prove that the man had been wronged (I can't go into the details for privacy reasons).

He's been released, and a (modest) monetary compensation has been made. But he's still not satisfied. He's unhappy, for the society still sees him as a rapist when he was innocent.

The person everyone who knows him well is angry with is the girl, who's miraculously still enjoying what you'd call a normal life. She's got everything; money, a job, and a nice home. There's not a hint of guilt on her face even after she's destroyed a man's life.

Is this real? Do such people really exist? Can paying someone and setting them 'free' after being jailed for a crime they never committed ever be justified, when everyone knows that they have and will keep facing the humiliation of being labelled a rapist (which, in my opinion, is equal to, if not worse, than being labelled a murderer)?

Some women are truly self-centered. That girl accused an innocent man of rape and was sentenced for 20 years and she has no guilt.. pathetic.
In my studies.. women are solipstic meaning they think that other than themselves nothing exists. They think that their emotions are valid even if they are not.

This is infuriating to me. A FALSE accusation can destroy someone, completely unfairly. When it's found out that the"victim" made up the accusation they should suffer the same sentence that a real rapist would have received and have to pay back every penny in legal fees and lost wages as a result of the case.

False rape accusations are far more common, and far more devastating than most people realize. A friend of my parents committed suicide several years after being falsely accused by a friend of his daughter. She eventually confessed to the fact that it was all a lie meant to hurt the daughter, but the damage had already been done. His wife divorced him and the business he had spent many years building failed due to fallout from the rape accusation and damage to his reputation in the community. He essentially lost everything. Anyone who says false rape accusations are less damaging that rape is a naïve fool.

There is a difference between a maliciously false allegation of rape and there not being enough evidence for a safe conviction. Just because he's been released dosent mean the allegation is proven false.
If there is evidence that she fabricated the whole thing she ought to be prosecuted.

Well, he did spend quite some time in jail, and it was after new evidence came up that he was released, overriding the previous ones. The old evidence had left the slightest gap, which the judge had overlooked (a benefit of doubt thing). The prosecuted's lawyer had argued upon it, but the case was closed and didn't reopen until by some miracle something came up.

I think false rape allegations with intent beyond a reasonable doubt should be punished.

The intent part is important to protect victims who just don't have enough evidence to get justice

Black men have probably been affected the most by this. White women and Black women lying and sending them to jail. Being in jail for a crime that you didn't commit has to be awful. I think that these women should be imprisoned or if they are dead now then imprison their daughters
