why do they highlight the part that they feel bad instead of the part they that they had to defend themselves
i understand that people feel bad but you have no choice sometimes
I'm sure a lot of people would be traumatized if they killed another person in self defense.
But I think optics is also important. You will get more sympathy from the public and from a jury if you focus on the fact that you feel terrible about taking a life, even if you had no choice. People would think you were a cold blooded killer if you didn't show remorse.
I have no idea how I would feel. I've never been in that situation and hope I never am. But if someone gave me no other choice than to take them down, I might not think they were worthy of sympathy. They were a bag of shit and the world is better off without them. And I'd be pissed that they put me in that position.
I've seen a lot of CCTV videos of armed robbers having the tables turned on them and getting shot. It actually brings me joy.
It has to do with their heart and personality. Some people like or enjoy crushing others and controlling them. Having them dead doesn't effect them. Others have compassion and empathy for others. Although they may defend their life, they feel bad for the other... their thought would be more of "I wish they had changed or had opportunity to change their life for the better".
I know military guys that killed many and they regret the trauma they endured and were just glad to survive. But it effected them deeply. A lot of people have "feelings" and care for others... e. g. empathy?
It makes sense to me. The boy didn’t want to put down old yeller. He felt bad for doing it.
I can't explain it, but I have seen that happen.

I think half the people are just saying that. Especially the way cancel culture is going. If I'm on the news and I don't say "oh i feel horrible" then I'm going to get cancelled. Also, many attorneys advise their client not to say "sorry I did it" but "sorry it happened" which doesn't admit guilt which can come back to bite you in the butt with overzealous D. A. s in anti-gun areas making a name for themselves on the back of your legal defense fund.
"I don't feel shit I was just taking out the trash" doesn't make as good a soundbite for the PC crowd, but it's the honest one for me.
Yo man, that's a good point. When someone has to use force to defend themselves, the most important thing is that they were protecting their own life. Feeling bad about it is normal too, but yeah, they probably shouldn't emphasize that part as much.
Like if someone broke into my house at night, I'd do what I had to do to stay safe. But then talking to cops or whatever, I wouldn't want to make it sound like I'm apologizing, you know? Gotta stress that the other dude left me no choice if I wanted to survive.
Feelings are complicated though. Even if you did the right thing protecting yourself, taking a life probably messes with your head a bit. Maybe that's why some people bring up feeling bad, just to show it wasn't an easy choice. But you're right, first thing should be explaining why they had no other option except defending themselves. Their safety needs to come first when telling the story.
because they really feel bad... and VERY VERY conflicting
the part in which you have to defend yourself, that is easy to understand, you just had to
and this bad feeling is something that can haunt you and even mess the rest of your life sometimes... so that's what needs to be addressed, are you familiar with PTSD?
i understand but feeling bad cones second
do you speak by your own experience?
or are you just assuming?
i have seen some people that have done it
okay, so you're assuming...
don't assume... and if they feel bad about doing something that yes, IT IS BAD... respect their feelings
i respect their feelings
they simply talk about it more then self defense
because they feel bad about it...
it's not that difficult to understand
i think most people are acting hoping to get respect and status for showing they are human.
this was an emphasis in book hunger games that people related to. she did kill but she "wished nobody would die" seems holy to talk that way.
Because then any idiot could just just murder someone, and claim it as "self defence".
In fact "remorse" is one of the main reasons a claim would not be brought against you.
Just because it is "self defence" does not mean it cannot be murder or you did not have intent. This is why "tapping" the media to soften support for a case of murder is something the prosecutor will look for,
for most people it is the worst thing to ever happen to them. It is not like you see on TV. Thry do not wamt to live it again.
The news rarely shows anything positive - seems violence, sex, etc evil in other words is their way
