Colorado Supreme Court Has Disqualified President Trump from GOP Primary Ballot -  Trump campaign blasts Colorado judges who removed him from 2024 ballot, vows to appeal to US Supreme Court -  Vivek Ramaswamy has pledged to withdraw from the Colorado GOP primary unless Trump is also allowed to be on the state's ballot. Additionally, he has demanded that Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley do the same immediately. -

No, this is not election interference. It's an interpretation of the US Constitution's "insurrection" clause, in which the court ruled that the Jan 6 riot was an insurrection and that Trump "engaged in" it.

It will likely be appealed to the US Supreme Court, which could be very interesting. It wouldn't surprise me if SCOTUS refused to hear the appeal because the US Constitution specifies that the individual states set their own rules for assigning electors.

It also wouldn't surprise me if SCOTUS overturned the ruling on the basis that the "insurrection" clause prevents a person from holding office; it says nothing about how electors can be chosen... remember that voters do not vote for President, they vote for electors who say they are pledged to a candidate.

In any case, this will be an interest view of Constitutional legality.

As slatyb points out, the 14th amendment came after the War Between the States. It's the view of the State of Colorado that this amendment applies due to a preponderance of evidence that Trump violated his oath to protect the Constitution and did in fact engage in an insurrection against the government. Even though Trump has not gone on federal trial yet and been convicted of this, the State believes it to be true based on the known facts and they are opting to remove him from the ballot.

I am more surprised about the where and when. I would have expected it to happen in Georgia, after a conviction.

It's a court ruling. I haven't read it. The ruling is not preposterous. There's a lot of evidence that Trump attempted to retain power after losing the 2020 election.
