Supreme Court rules 9 to 0 that Trump can not be removed from the Colorado ballot. Why the hell did democrats even try this in a deep blue state?

Colorado has become California 2.0. Hillary won by a wide margin in 2012. Biden won by 13.5 percentage points in 2020 which is absolutely blowing it out the water. The Democratic nominee could be Joseph Stalin in 2024 and he would likely be voted in by radical leftists in Colorado.

And yet the Colorado Supreme Court came up with a very genius idea of trying to remove Trump both from the 2024 primary and general election Colorado ballots. And why did they even try this given Biden is predicted to win Colorado again in 2024 anyway? I saw recent polls were the brain dead turnip for a president is up 8 percentage points. That’s a huge margin. So why even try?

Anyway the supreme courts (rightfully) unanimously voted this really asinine idea down 9 to 0. This includes the three liberal justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson (even though filed “concurring” opinions saying it wasn’t a bad idea)

But are the Colorado Supreme Court justices who came up with this stupid idea not know they ultimately helped Trump nationwide? Do they not know that independent swing voters in swing states are hearing all about this and now seeing even more confirmation that the system really is out to unfairly get Trump? Are they really that stupid not to realize that this all could backfire?

They probably thought if one state got away with it other states would follow suit and that that would somehow give Biden the edge to win and prevent trump from his final chance at fixing the rot the democrats have put us through for the last 4 years.

You do realize that this has nothing to do with exonerating Trump right? All they did was say that the power to prosecute Trump through the 14th amendment was in the hands of Congress, not in the states. The reason states were doing this is because the people wanted Trump to suffer consequences for his treason and Congress was not giving it to them so they took matters into their own hands.

Trump has not even been convicted of “treason” and their justification is “insurrection”.

So let’s say it went forward any Trump was removed from the ballot in a far left state. This is something that’s never been done in the history of the United States.

You might find that to be “justice” and it’s emotionally pleasing to far leftists. But in the general election it’s only going to help Trump. Because Biden not only is hated by conservatives but he is polling negative with independents and swing voters.

Do you really believe that this would be a “victory for democracy” if it went through? Maybe you do but for a lot of people INCLUDING swing voters/independents I or would it would appear for to be the exact opposite. Who looks more like a “threat to democracy”? You do not need to be convicted for treason to have the 14th amendment applied to you. That would mean the court system has authority over who is and who is not allowed to run, which you pointed out earlier is a power given by the 14th amendment directly to congress and no the state and not the courts.

And yes that was an insurrection and yes that is treason. Also yes it has been done previously in US history. That whole section of the constitution was explicitly added to prevent people involved in the confederacy from running for office in USA after the civil war. There is precedence for banning Trump from running for office.

Also it is definitely Trump that is the highest threat to Democracy in USA right now. I am shocked you even asked that. I am also confident that swing voters would have supported the correct application of the constitution, which would mean Trump would have been prevented from running. Even if you think it is an unfair call, that is what is written in it and most people blindly believe in the constitution so would not object to it.

You are welcome to hate Trump all you want. You are welcome to have whatever negative opinion you like about him.

Do you really believe that? Sure some of them might feel that way but others would feel that system is rigged just like Trump keeps claiming. They would feel that trying to deprive voters from the option to vote for a nominated candidate is extremely un-Democratic no matter how unsavory that person is.

Impeached is not the same thing as being criminally convicted. Being on trial is not the same as criminally convicted either. Your 14th amendment argument is based on interpretation. And even liberal supreme justices interpreted that differently than you did.

Mark my words that futile attempt to remove Trump from the ballot is going to help him more than hurt him. The Democratic Party is hoping to get the negative attention off Biden but fixating on Trump.

That’s not going to work unless Trump invites it and keeps stepping on rakes (which is he often obsessed with doing). But trying something that unprecedented against a presidential candidate was a very bad idea optically.

Those supreme court justices were not voting if Trump should be removed on the ballot or not. They were voting if states had the right to remove them from the ballot. It was a question of who had the authority to enforce section 3 of the 14th amendment. It was entirely about procedure and not about if Trump should or should not be allowed to be on the ballot (according to them they also do not get to decide if he does. Again, its a constitutional right strictly reserved for Congress and not the states and not the Supreme Court).

This is also not an impeachment or a criminal conviction. This comes directly from the constitution as a law which is why I believe people would be fine with it. It is on the same rank as things like the freedom of speech etc.. Allowing Trump to run right now literally undermines your own constitution.

You might not think it is just or that it is unfair but that is how your constitution is written and would require a constitutional amendment to fix.

Do you truly believe that Colorado Supreme Court justices were just trying to apply constitutional law or were they not motivated by their animus for Trump?

Even if they successfully removed Trump for the ballot in hopes of setting a constitutional precedent then this opens up Pandora’s box allowing states to deem without criminal conviction which candidates are “valid” to be on ballots vs. which ones aren’t.

If that isn’t a “threat to democracy” then I don’t know what is. You can’t just subjectively disqualify candidates from state ballots if they haven’t been criminally convicted on treason:insurrection charges.

I know this amendment was enacted to stop confederates from holding office post civil war. You probably compare that apples to apples to the Trump campaign but most other Americans do not.

Also for the record I am not not ever will be huge fan of Trump. But I care about policy and most Americans are very unhappy with Biden and for good reason.

But every time the democrats try to come after Trump thinking they “got him” it backfires. It also makes more and more people believe Trump’s rhetoric that “the system is rigged”.

I still wonder if Trump would of blew out the primaries if he wasn’t coincidentally had the justice system come after him with not one but 4 criminal charges (with openly bias DAs) all that same time.

I personally believe that Democratic elitists were thinking he would be the most beatable candidate for Biden to run against so that was orchestrated. But be careful what you wish for.

But that is exactly how the 14th amendment works. The people who were banned from holding office after the confederacy did not get charged for treason in court first. The 14th amendment is completely independent from the judicial branch and can disqualify anyone that congress considers to be guilty.

Let me repeat this to make it perfectly clear. The 14th amendment is not a matter of law, and never was.

As for the Democrats in Colorado, I am pretty sure they were not afraid of Trump winning their state. They were doing this to further their goals on a broader scale, like for example open up the possibility of doing this on a Congressional scale. It was a protest vote and not much else. Considering how big news it became I would argue that they succeeded in getting their message to the public.

Removing my personal feelings about the election I see your point. I still don’t agree with what the Colorado Supreme Court did. Also it seems that the law only applies one way nowadays i. e. “We aren’t filing charges because Joe Biden is too old and forgetful to be found guilty by a jury…::”.

That doesn’t mean I even agree with the “insurrectionist” bs but looking at this debate in an isolated vacuum he presented an interesting argument. And he did it without going off on some rant about Trump being a “fascist dictator” or some typical leftist bullshit. I wouldn’t be surprised if he thinks that BUT he was able to keep the legal debate on point and didn’t lose his cool. I respect him for that even though I do not agree with him. But people who have lived her for a long time have witnessed Denver turn into a Democratic run liberal shit hole. And it used to be a nice place until radical leftists took over.
