Why do some people use the terms assigned male at birth or assigned female at birth?

Male and female are sexes. If you are born with a penis your sex is male. If you aren’t your sex is female.

It's absurd, isn't it?
Male and female refers to your anatomy. People who use "assigned" are either trans or they are using trans language to pander to the feelings of those who push the trans narrative. They have swallowed the Kool Aid.
It's like using terms such as "birthing parent" or "menstruating person" in order to pretend that male and female are social constructs.

Even if a woman gets her boobs cut off and takes hormones to grow a beard, she is still a women. And if a man takes hormones to grown boobs and body fat and gets vaginoplasty, he is still a dude. They can't change their basic anatomy. I don't care how they "feel".

Using terms like "assigned male/female at birth" is really more accurate and inclusive for some people, even if it seems confusing at first.

Like, for transgender folks, saying they were "born male/female" implies they still identify that way deep down, when really their gender identity is different than what doctors assumed based on their anatomy alone.

It's not really an "assignment" to most people, but for trans/non-binary peeps it acknowledges their true gender isn't just based on their parts. Some also don't fully identify as male or female fully.

I don't really get it either, since gender seems pretty clear cut as a guy. But it doesn't hurt to use terms that make people feel seen and respected, you know? Even if it's not how I'd label myself.

At the end of the day we should just call people what they want to be called. Makes the world a little easier for everyone I figure.

It helps further their victim status. "Assigned at birth" makes it sound more like something someone wrongfully did to them.

Why would they? Its not any more accurate to phrase it like that, in fact it might even be more inaccurate. Simply put, there is no actual definition for what a "man" or a "woman" is so specifying that it was assigned to you at birth and presumably by the hospital staff at least points out that THEY are the ones who made the judgement rather than try to imply some fundamental truth about reality that you ARE a male or a female when those does not exist.

They're trying to promote the idea that the delineation of the sexes is ultimately arbitrary. As you yourself have probably noticed, this is quite a few steps beyond the idea of it being mutable. This is really quite stupid, since 1. only in the very rare case of genuine hermaphrodites is a decision made, 2. even IN such cases, it's not "assignment", and 3. they're still promoting the idea of treating people differently based on sex, which is the root of the whole issue.

Because some people don't agree with their assigned sex.

Either because they are trans or they were born with both genitals and parents and doctors just did gender reasignment surgery on the newborn baby.
