Well, withdrawal from NATO is not something a President can do by themselves.

Trump's problem with NATO is that most NATO dependencies do not spend the 2% of GDP that ALL NATO members agreed to pay back in 2015. That shouldn't be hard to do, but most NATO members have been free riding for so long, they assume they'll get away with it forever.

So who's really at fault here? NATO members that won't live up to their responsibilities and haven't for decades, or a US presidential candidate who doesn't want to subsidize that irresponsibility any longer?

No, he can't withdraw from it without approval from Congress, which he wouldn't get. There are reasons, some quite legitimate, to worry about him getting elected, but that's not one of them.

It won't stop him from claiming that he will, though.

NO. Trump just wants the "Eurotrash" to pay more of their way, that is, to spend more of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defense, and stop relying on Americans to do it for them.

But *Nothing* is more infuriating than hearing arrogant Eurotrash people (not all of you, just some) boast about their wonderful social services, while spending a tiny fraction of their GDP on their defense compared to the USA, which means America, upon which they look down, is doing the defending for them.

He just wants NATO to follow the rules so the U. S. doesn't have to do every single thing for every other member country on Earth, and so U. S. taxpayers don't have to pay for it.

Most EU countries do not pay their share into defense or Nato obligations. They are worthless allies, especially Germany. We don’t need the EU. They need us but they only want us to pay in money and blood for their protection while they hate on us. This is why I agree with Trump on Nato. Even though the EU needs to US and know that the US leaving Nato is a possibility, they STILL do not invest in defense. F Nato.
