If you mean reproduction by preservation I wouldn't say it's true, for one there's lots of different forms of love (familial, friendship, romantic) and they don't all equate to preserving humanity. Plus, whilst friendship and love probably does have an element of curiosity I doubt it all stems from preserving humans, I think it's more natural and personal curiosity to look for certain qualities in someone else

Who actually loves their family... in the way that we think of love. Like excitement. Joy. Happiness. I'm not like that around family. It's actually boring.
Lust and infatuation are caused by preservation instinct. Love is more emotional and obsessive but underlies egoistic needs. However those needs are mutual and benevolent quid pro quo is most stable and successful strategy.
