Although I don't agree with Putin's given argument or reasoning for invading Ukraine. The coup, 'nazi' fears, and security concerns were shallow and hard to see as serious threats issues for Russia.
Putin's deep view of history and its effect upon Russia and its historic claims to the Ukraine and grasp upon information was quite impressive for a politician.
Putin made most U. S. politicians look foolish, ignorant, and shallow. I can't speak to the correctness of Putin's history I suspect he is whitewashing key details to shape his own narrative. But the fact that he can recite it and is thinking about it really does show a man who has a deeply thought out view of the world and plan.
This really makes Putin a far more impressive threat than I had imagined. Although Putin history and his country which he has run for more than 20 years now stands as fairly compelling evidence Putin is not in fact a good administrator.
@goaded Being a thug does not mean he is not also a politician, even dictators are really oligarchs and have to play politics thus making them politicians. Putin very clearly is playing Russian politics, regardless of some of this unethical means.
@oddbeme
I don't know too much about the details of the history of this particular region beyond the very broad terms of its effect on the byzantine and roman empires. I suspected however Putin's history may be falty. The point is Putin unlike most leaders was able to put together and recall without notes said history and how it effects his foreign policy choices.
This is far beyond most modern Western leaders including the last 3+ presidents. This depth of knowledge and attention to detail demonstrates Putin's carefully considered positions and actions. His track records as mentioned however illustrates a significant weakness in his inability to similarly manage large systems.
Nonetheless Putin has made his position clear and how he feels Russia has been aggrieved and betrayed by the west.
He has a valid point in that we didn't let Russia into NATO even as we brought in nearly all of Russia's neighbors as if to effectively unite them against Russia. We similarly refused to work with Russia on a Missile defense system which could pose a threat to Russia, which again from Russia's point of view seems like to further put Russia into a corner to be subjugated.
In Putin's defense this really was the attitude of many of our Washington D. C. Elite towards Russia as it is also the attitude toward Germany. The difference is Germany is in NATO and gets what it needs from NATO as such Germany doesn't have any reason to take it seriously as clearly we are not in a position to bully Germany at all. Russia does.
This is an example of a foreign policy failure by Washington D. C. That should have been fully debated and discussed in Congress if congress wasn't too busy trying to do everything else in America.
@oddbeme If you wish to know your enemy you should watch it, remaining ignorant of the man you simply wrote off as evil, thou perhaps true does no service to any good.
As I said I won't dispute Putin's record, there is much that can be learned from and observed about said record. This hardly distinguishes Putin from most rulers throughout history nor even more resent Russian rulers. That also doesn't change the fact that Putin has motivations, concerns and interest which have been ignored.
We don't control Putin only ourselves and congress has allowed itself to be distracted into delegating all of foreign policy to unelected bureaucrats who were much too inflexible in their view of the world and far too much tried to ignore Russia.
How many sovereign countries have we invaded in the last 20+ years alone since Putin took power?
@goaded That we agree the U. S. has likewise invaded numerous countries, many more than Putin has, simply establishes that we have no higher moral authority in that area than Putin himself.
That Putin has done this for some actual benefit to Russia in the form of more lands and resources to settle and tax. Only demonstrates he actually has more of an interest in the well-being of his people rather than simply using them to impose his ideas upon the world.
How many is America still in? How many were its neighbours? Why just the last 20 years (come to think of it, that would exclude Afghanistan and Iraq)?
Russia has occupied territories in Georgia (in Abkhazia and South Ossetia), Moldova (in Transnistria), and Ukraine (in Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia), and they don't plan to ever leave.
I don't see why you Liberals want to cancel the Tucker for having boulder sized balls by interviewing Putin. Sadam Hussain was interviewed by a western journalist as was G W Bush, Obama and Biden and no journalist was cancelled.
I know it’s hard for you to face the fact that he's smarter than Biden, who can't put two sentences together.
How fucking bad is America when their president amd "press" is losing to Putin, Tucker Carlson, and 4chan?
