Why are Americans more polite than English people?

I don’t really get it? England was my biggest culture shock, besides India.

Hubris softens the earth beneath the feet of victory. English people have had Americans telling them that English people are so much smarter and more polite than Americans for decades. I think the mechanisms that made it objectively true ~50 years ago have fallen to neglect and so know they are more rude and dumber. Pendulums swing both ways, alas..

I feel like they are more educated but more rude, or at least cultural aspects that aren’t considered rude in the UK are rude here. I find English people to be not as genuine as Americans. You know the fake use you for anything stereotype about Los Angeles California? I find that fakeness stereotype matches English people much more than Southern Californians in reality.

Some people might think that Americans are a tad scrapings of moldy cheese more polite than the British, but that's just sour milk talk if you catch my drift. What they call "polite" is really just irony. Every stinky corner of the world has its own verbal aroma.

Americans, and the Europeans, I’ve met outside of the UK, are a lot more polite, not a tad bit more, hell no.

I’ve been to London a lot, but I’ve also been to a lot of Northern England like York, which I’ve find worse than London.

London actually seems more polite than most of England. People from different cultures who are more well mannered.

Zero chance of London being more polite, even people living in the UK including London know London is no way near polite. Crime is off the roof in London, no one talks to each other outside their own messed up community, it’s horrendous

@RebelinSteel I find London to be a lot more clean than New York. British people from African/Polish/Middle Eastern, backgrounds are just more polite, and have more in common socially with Americans than white British people. I’ve been all over London, many times, it’s the best city in the UK.

I won’t be back in London for a few months but I do plan on going back to Hyde Park, and Kensington, and seeing friends, hanging out.

Not calling people names, not saying socially inappropriate things in public, not getting drunk in public, etc.

@RebelinSteel you’ve never been to my country if you think it’s messy. You’ve never been to New York, Philadelphia, or anywhere in Latin America. You live in small little world. I’ll go everywhere Mexico, Jamaica, Nigeria, India, you don’t know anything about the outside world. London is more well kept, and has a better quality of life than anywhere in North America besides Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver BC.

Homeless people will give birth on the street on the US, shoot up any drug they can find in public, poop on the street, but they don’t do in a like a rude it’s out of poverty, and despair.

I found all the women in London to be quite polite. The men there I'd say were more polite than NYC but less so than Charlotte NC. The U. S. has a lot of cultures here. Some more "friendly" than others.

Wow that wasn't my experience at all. People in NY just kind of go on about their business. Every time I went down for coffee or to get a morning snack, or back then when I smoked, when I went out to smoke, some lady'd come by and tell me a great place I should try or randomly share this fruit and nut bread that apparently a lot of people carry around with them. I was looking for a park... don't remember which. This lady the next table over gave me directions, then when I said I'd probably mess it up she walked me about a mile and a half to it with me. In NY most people don't even say hi on the street when I was there. How weird that our experiences were so different.
