Why is it that when republicans SAY they'll vote for a woman to be president, when push comes to shove, they wind up not?

Dems are the only ones who've actually put a woman up for it. Granted, it was hillary clinto who felt she "deserved it because it was "her time"", which isn't right but, my point is, we ACTUALLY DID. Republicans, refuse to. ITS STILL TRUMP

Because the only one's who've run either sucked (like Clinton), or failed to suck to such a degree that the Democrats refused to nominate them (like Tulsi Gabbard- an informed moderate concerned with healing the political division in the country would've picked up a LOT of Republican votes, but no, they wanted the Walking War on the Bill of Rights instead).

In the real world, people care more about leadership than chromosomes. Nikki Haley's campaign was primarily based around "I'm not Donald Trump", which isn't enough.

Republicans are still infatuated with Trump. I mean, they’re actually emotionally attached and they feel he was robbed when he was voted out. Haley never stood a chance.

Oh stop it. We WOULD have voted for someone female along the lines of former GOP Presidential Candidates:

1. Michelle Bachmann

2. Carly Fiorina (maybe, she kind of waffled)

3. Sarah Palin (had she become Veep and then used that as a launching platform from there)

But Nikki Haley? The expired and unsuccessful George W. Bush / Karl Rove policies *do not* get new appeal just because you put someone in a skirt or dress pushing them, and Nikki Haley was and is a throwback to the Bush/Rove days.

What you and others on the Left DON'T understand is that the Trump phenomenon arose because the rank and file of the GOP were disillusioned and even at times downright disgusted with the old Bush / Rove policies of endless foreign interventions, "Free Trade" that really *wasn't*, and foolish immigration policies based upon the delusion that the GOP would win a Hispandering Contest.

In 2016, Donald Trump (stridently) and Ted Cruz (muted, but still firmly) rejected these three cornerstone Bush/Rove policies, that the GOP Establishment, symbolized by Jeb Bush (the next Bush Dynasty member) and every other GOP primary candidate were pushing. And who came in First and Second? Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. HINT, HINT.

The answer is simple; to appease women voters and try to make them think "if there was a qualified woman candidate, they'd back her. But since there isn't, I'll vote Republican because at least I know they would have". LOL That's why, and they'd only consider it if she was just the right amount of "crazy right wing" who they could easily control.
