Yes and no… temporarily, yes I believe so. But permanently? I don’t believe so. Sexuality is not a decision. There’s many factors to it. I myself went through 2 years of being turned “lesbian” after I was r-worded by a guy. The trauma caused me to not be able to be around guys for a while, let alone feel any attraction towards males. So for 2 years I only felt attraction towards girls. Eventually I worked through that trauma and my attraction for guys returned. So it was temporary, and a direct result from a traumatic event. I’ve known other people who have been through similar to me, and have temporarily had a different sexuality. But always returned to their original sexuality before the trauma happened, whether it was gay, straight, bi, etc.

Definitely not straight, I was interested in both guys and girls from the start. But I’d consider myself as demisexual rather than bisexual. I don’t feel sexually attracted to someone just based off of physical appearance. There has to be some sort of emotional connection.

I don't think so. Most people know what gender and/or sex they're attracted to. So, if they were attracted to the same sex, they were probably already gay but didn't realize it. It's the reason why some people don't figure out their sexuality until adulthood (there's nothing wrong with this, by the way).

Yes, I think its more common for girls though. But imagine your a girl who had bad experiences with men and originally wasn't interested in girls, one of your friends happens to be lesbian / bi and she convinces you to try it out at least once and made it a nicer experience than the ones you had with a guy. That can change someones attraction around.

I don't think it will be common, but I do think that if the individual was somewhat open to it it can be brought out of them. What happens more is kids being convinced to change their gender, kids don't have good enough identities yet and are easily manipulated so there you see a lot of manipulation being effective.

I think that some people will turn to any group that offers them acceptance and love. I don't think the core of that group has any choice at all.

Most nowadays, especially young kids…like teens…are so easily influenced to be lost. So yea… they can. Due to lack of strong family values.
on the other, it’s so much harder to keep one to stay their ground. I did for the sake of my future generations… my kids will continue the legacy we started.

Yes... people are programmable to some extent. Some people will project their emotions upon others... it's projection. Kids can be damaged or misdirected at any time in development to experiment, that would include traumatic episodes they may not associate to the damage. From that point anything can happen, not just gay/les/bi, and difficult to locate and takes effort to locate root issue.
I'm not saying that is true for all people...
To your point "... just exploring". if you leave fragile, "follower type" humans loose in society, they will fall right into the pit of doom. As a parent you do not, ever, let your kid go experimening on their own based upon what some sleezy other people/hollywood/society has come up. That's called "asking for trouble". Kids need guided to navigate hazardous environment. Once grown, they make their own choices and accept consequences. As children... and that is actually sometime prior to full development around 28, they need parents.

@lightbulb27 ok i meant teens only. teenagers will and often do explore things and thats against whatever their parents tell them or not. because its a natural thing. thats why the best we can do is yeah tell them not to do it and discourage them BUT because we were all teenagers once and understand how hormones are at that time in or lives, if they do explore anyways to do it safely.

and now for kids, as far as i know i don't know any media thats teaching kids (we'll say 12 and under) to explore their sexuality. they might be taught typical fifth grade sex ed, but no ones telling them to go out and experiment sexually. if they are then yes that is wrong (that goes for gay OR straight by the way).

as far as i know the only thing they might be taught is that its ok to be gay and that there's nothing wrong with them for being a little different from normal. i see that as a positive thing because the alternative is they learn that its wrong to feel the way they feel and they should repress it. it leads to depression and anxiety and other bad mental effects.

Kids are influenced by their environment. I've seen such around, but most of it I would agree is "it just is". There's nothing wrong with saying..."someone is like this, but that isn't you". That's different than imposing ones emotions on another. When that happens to children, they can be "warped" in variety of directions... when the kids don't have the awareness or strength to oppose (e. g. emotional trauma... possibly deceit).

Being parent is guide and sometimes requires standing ground on values. Better the parent better the outcome.

I think you would agree... some aspect of attraction is developmental. "Gay"... was not fixed on moment one of the fertilization was it? It developed...

not 'allow them' but more like if they do experiment and you find out about it you don't come down hard on them. the consequences shouldn't be severe (from your end). all im saying is that if they still choose to do it anyways to make sure and be safe about it. no unwanted pregnancies or stds. so as i said you discourage them from doing it and focus on school and such but as stated above we all know how hormones at that age can be so if they do do it that they first of all understand the full weight of the consequences of not being safe and if they do try anything out that it is done safely.

so basically discourage it but have a back up plan jic they do it against your wishes anyways. it does happen. we oughtta err on the side of caution there.

that answer depends on age. I wouldn't want to be that lax. I don't trust my 16yr old with a car, let alone with a boyfriend and if it's a questionable girlfriend, they ain't hanging out in the bedroom. Their brains are not fully formed, they take excessive risks and they don't understand consequences of their actions nor long term implications of the emotional pain. Thus keeping them out of trouble and re-steering.
I'm thankful the issues we've had to deal with, are small compared to what some face. I'm not sure you understand or believe that a trauma can result in a young adult doing self destructive behaviors.

We teach responsibility and consequences, in that frame, you talk about in advance and guide and they learn to make choices. So I'd provide guidance to avoid the scenerio of being with guy or girl that can lead to "emotional trauma"... e. g. not ready to handle what they experience... as best we can. Already had the "my friend at school is bi... maybe I'm bi?" situation. That was dealt with easily enough... it's BS... the kid doesn't know. So give reality chec..."if you are bi... there is the door!". Solved, likes guys... amazing!
So if she does slip up then it's life and that's that, don't give me the drama... what you want to do next? If it is a guy I don't trust or perceive as dangerous, then he's out of the picture. If I like the guy, then I ask him for a ring to give to daughter. not complicated.
Don't think these are adults that can make decisions... they are learning independence. The problem with freedom is it requires responsibility and that is not being taught in society very well.

Yes, but some bluffs can turn real and depends on scenario. It's a family, and it's a dynamic.
If someone really is "lesbian"... and we may have one in extended family... time will tell, then so be it. But I'd at least be challenging it since people don't know. But I would not let people take on things that are damaging and risky, depeding upon age and maturity. We don't let our kids play with explosives either eventhough it looks fun... ya know? and decisions at these ages are a just as damaging and just as long term.

my overriding point is that either there a skilled parents or the individual has a strong will and sense of values from somewhere. Many people do not have that. Yes and it isn't just other people, it's our own kid I look out for. Don't trust anyone... listen to Trump when he says that.. he's right. If Biden said that, he's right as well. not gay people per se, I don't have a problem with what people decide once they are strong enough to defend themselves emotionally. But there is an edge to that... the world turns out trauma, emotional garbage and opinions. "try this", lets experiment, eat these corn flakes or this potion. It corrupts people. Listen to music (endless garbage unless you know how to filter it right), listen to what people on this site say in relationships. It's all over more than ever.
This world has a lot of corruption and all it takes is making an emotional impression on someone or stating an idea.
Ya gotta be really careful. History is full of examples of children being corrupted and used for bad deeds (Nazi germany, Africa soldiers... etc. etc..). Gay is small potatoes. That said, some gay/trans/etc. people can be very pushy and make impressions. They can impact others wrongly so. That is wrong... for it is corrupting others. To be something yourself by your own clearity of heart, that's on you. I support ones right. Children need protected and some adults need emotional healing to escape from the traumas that sent them down the wrong path long ago.
