echoing a post below, the huge amount of irony the church praying away gay, while in the back room the priest is showing altar boys what it’s like.
the church and religion in general, are solely responsible on a global scale over 1000’s years, for interfering in sexual matters and making things so bad people are killed, commit suicide or murder others..

Praying will do you no good if there is not a change in your heart. God has no obligation to answer a non believer's prayer unless it is the prayer of acceptance of Jesus as your savior. But it also involves repentance and not many gays want to change their life style. Jesus cannot save them if they choose to reject the Son of God's sacrifice for your forgiveness of sins. No one can get into Heaven on their own merits. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." A person must repent (change their ways) in order to be saved. So gays, or anyone else, can be saved if they are willing to repent and follow God.
Nope, you can believe anything you want but it doesn't make it so. You have to follow rules and meet the requirements which is part of the deal. A gift doesn't do a person any good if they don't accept / receive it.
Well, the Bible calls it an abomination. Since God is the final judge on Judgement Day when your life will be reviewed for all to see and all can see if you were right or wrong, I would lean towards what God says seeing as He wrote the laws for His creation.

So, let me put like this, if you are religious and gay, and you pray to god to be 'cured' and made heterosexual - the reason that won't work for you can't be because god doesn't care if you are gay or not - it's because god shouldn't answer your prayers because you are not religious enough. Daniele the expression 'to read comprehensively' refers to reading broadly, not with the intent to understand a specific passage of text more, but I think that is what you are meaning. That would also appear to be incongruent with reading too much into anything (taking a range of interpretations would rather be the point of more comprehensive reading, no?) Further, the Bible has text in it, not facts. A fact would need to be something that can be independently observed and recognized without dispute, everything this else is conjecture. Lastly, you have doubled down on my point not refuted it - you can't be cured because god knows what is in your heart, so god will always ignore if you are gay inside. That is sick and evil Daniele.

@kingofthellamas The Old Testament God was judging people. When Jesus died on the cross in the New Testament He was a God of forgiveness. Why do A holes keep looking at the Old Testament?
Firstly I'm not an a hole, I'm just not religious. But to answer your question, I don't see how you can in one breath offer the Bible up as having facts in it, but then in the next decide to ignore certain passages (or facts as you had called them). How do you know which are the right passages and which are not? If some passages are to be ignored, how many, and why not all of them?

I know homosexuals who gave up their lifestyle and reoriented their affections to coincide with traditional majority relationships but it was based on a consistent and multi causal series of social and environmental triggers as well as a series of pluralistic and circumstantially sensitive self initiated efforts too and each person deals with their sexuality in a different way - I do not believe I’m qualified to address the full spectrum of sexual preferences in a spiritual context but I share the opinion that God prefers heterosexuality but still cares about the health and safety of most homosexuals.
While you can give up on the lifestyle, you cannot simply change your sexual orientation. I believe conversation therapy is nothing but brainwashing and gaslighting the person into thinking they're inhuman. That their homosexuality is a sin. They use god as a weapon to try and convince homosexuals. They guilt trap the subjects and they live their entire lives trying to seek redemption from the "sins" they've committed. Also no offence to you but you sound like a somebody who believes in the earth being flat and discards the theory of evolution.
Some people are just born liking others of the same gender. They are just not interested in the opposite sex. And who are we to tell them that what they are feeling is wrong and they should undergo Conversion Therapy? What if undergoing Conversion Therapy makes them even more depressed because they just do not want to be heterosexual? I am not a homosexual, I have a boyfriend whom I adored and loved deeply. That being said, I hate it when people are forced to do things that they do not want to. We should respect other peoples' choices and decisions and not just cuss them out as demons or non-believers or sinners just because they choose to have a different lifestyle than ours.
They have to want to be delivered from those demons. If they have no desire, then nothing is going to work, and God will not force a person to change and want to get healed. Those who got delivered from it did get healed and they live very productive lives and eventually got married and families of their own. There needs to be power in prayer. That is important. That is the same with everything else and spiritual warfare.
First of all, it is wrong. If kids can call out and see it is wrong, what makes anybody think this is normal? It's demonic. And it goes against what God designed. But people have a choice. So they choose what they want to do. Can't force them. You can only tell them. God knows what is going on and what is wrong. But if they don't want to be delivered from it, then that was their choice. I have seen and heard of people who got delivered from that homosexual spirit. It accompanies the spirit of witchcraft, rebellion, and pervserions. That came from people who had practiced witchcraft and open doors to the spirits and they get into your genetics. Witchcraft participates in homosexual acts to transfer spirits. I know even more because I have family who are homosexual and from their genetic line somebody in the family participated in homosexual acts and witchcraft. It is a demon. They try to attach to you as children. That's why you do not want to accept things you don't know. It's demons trying to convince people it's normal when it's not. It's demons.
If those feelings or anything abnormal feels forced, it's a demon and you need to rebuke them before they try to attach. Plenty of people are ill infromed about spiritual warfare and demons. They think it's pretend, a game or made up and not real and it is. It is dangerous to be ignorant.
That's why I pay attention to what I feel and sense around a person, listen to their vocal cords, and body language, because oftentimes it's the demon speaking through them laced on their vocals and reveal themselves. Same with people with lust spirts. It's ugly. And it's very nasty.

If you think that, then obviously you are not "gay". Gay people who are "happy" that way don't have a problem with people who don't agree with their lifestyle. I came from a state where homosexuality is very common and I can tell who is who.

If you feel like raping does that MEAN you have to become a rapist? Sin is not what you feel. It's what you DO. And if you WILLINGLY do sin, and you don't want to repent from it, then yes, you may find yourself in hell if you're not careful. That goes for me and everyone else.

If you do not want to be saved if you don't want to be here if you don't want to be free from those demons if you don't acknowledge that you are a sinner if you don't acknowledge that you have demons that is causing you this promise you're not going to be free from it because you already made a contract with it. Many don't even know of these things. But if you're going to be scared of these things and you refusing to do something about it you're going to be stuck. So no it's not ridiculous. You have to choose who you want to serve. Because if you don't then that's already the choice that you made.
I don't know where you assume that people have to act. Nobody had to act us to do anything that means that they are on likely did not want to change. Or something is really holding them back and they need to be within the presence of somebody who has the power to do it. Then you go to a place where you can get that healing. But some of may take months for other two can take years, but you never give up and you don't have anybody tell you otherwise. You got to keep on moving forward until you get what you need. Depending on how deep that route goes sometimes it isn't something that could be happening one day. How desperate are you to change! You got to really ask yourself how far you going to go! At least God he tells you the truth. The truth will set you free. If you don't like the truth then least admit it instead of conforming yourself to a lie and blame somebody else with it, when you're the one that made the decision to believe that.

Praying the gay away and hoping god heard you and decides to miraculously take the gayness away is an interesting thought. But I don’t think it’s that common. I think a lot of people who decide to ‘switch off’ their homosexuality is because that was their decision and they’ve decided it’s what’s best for them. There’s a lot of factors that may make someone want to live a traditional lifestyle. But I don’t believe in praying the gay away.
You would have to believe there was something wrong with being gay and be religious to believe it can be prayed away. It's almost part of normal behaviour anyway, u see various animals of same gender having fun, and archaeologists have found evidence of homosexuality dating back thousands of years. I say if it doesn't hurt anyone then there's nothing wrong with it, regardless of wether I like it or am interested.
Complicated. Sexual desires are not as simple as they seem. The desire isn't just going to go away, but there are lots of things you can do with it, depending on the person in question. It should be remembered that the primary purpose of prayer should be to acquire information, except when it's simply to express gratitude. The information in this case is how to deal with this temptation, just like any other, which will vary from person to person.
Being gay is not new. It's as old as tress. The same is true for religion and their conversion therapies.
If this was possible, there would be a documented cure, respected in medical fields by now. Or some nuggets of evidence that warrant scientific exploration.

I believe its pssible if your willing to let it go. It has to be you wanting it to go away. Just like porn addictions or any other sex life style.

I tried, at the insistence of our dog, to pray the feline away from our cat. She still meows, chases mice and scratches the furniture. So I do not believe it works at all based on my experience.

Of COURSE you can't "pray the gay away." That's just SILLY! But you SHOULD be able to realize that you're not gay at all! You were just born in the WRONG BODY! So what you should do is embrace TRANS and change your sex! Then you won't be gay anymore because as we ALL know, TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN and TRANS MEN ARE MEN. So you aren't gay at all, just in the wrong body.
And if you insist on staying in the wrong body and being gay, that just makes you a TRANSPHOBE!
It can be changed, yes, but I doubt mere prayer will do so. Our minds are extremely flexible, and if you wanted to, I'm sure you could become straight if you were gay or vice versa

There actually have been a few people who did turn straight. I don’t find it that difficult to believe since there’s a lot we don’t understand about the human brain.

No, they have not turned straight, they have turned repressed and in denial. And if the story about the rugby player is true - which i doubt - I think having a stroke is a high risk strategy and in no way akin to religious "therapy".

I'm not sceptical of it at all. It is just not possible to change someone's sexual identity, just like you can't make gold from silver. It is or it is not. Further, why would anyone want to. There is nothing wrong with being gay.

It's not like a "light switch", but many people have done it. It doesn't "pray away" in the obvious sense, but the prayers help invoke His power to change things.
Like everything you can fix these mentally ill people in the LGBTQ communities you just need the chinese running the show. Nothing like a gun and a high rise condo with a few examples to set these homosexuals strait.
That's an interesting thought, except history tells us once one 'problem' group has been solved, they move on to the next, and the next. Before you know it your own mother has a mouthful for lead because every one old and needing care is a burden on society.

Conversion therapy is about as bad and ineffective as anything gets. It doesn't work, and it is associated with high suicide rates, which probably why it is actually illegal in many places.

Of course it's not possible. They can pray away the temptation to sin, but they will always and forever be gay.
That isn't what @Still-alive is asking. Yes a gay person can be religious BUT the QUESTION AT HAND is can people pray the homosexuality away? Can they pray to be heterosexual & it work?
