When you think how hard it is (unless trained) to stab someone to death. Unless this person was military trained with knives (six is a high number for a blade) so many more would have died with bullets. Those poor people. Be interesting to see how a saner population handles this.

Because it’s hard to excess guns in Australia. USA crime statistics are way higher than Australia. Homicide rate and many other crimes in USA is higher than Australia.

Quick thoughts - crazies always find a way. Take away firearms as the tool of choice and the US would still have mass casualty events far exceeding any other developed nation. The US had violence problem, not a gun problem

Some people with guns (there are guns in my home due to work) some.. or lets get real, a lot of people, have this irrational fear of their guns getting taken away. The us is saturated. A couple of weeks ago I read about an older case of two regular guys getting into an argument on a parking lot. They both escalated, they both pulled guns, they both shot, they both died. In Europe they would have shoved each other a few times or whatever. In America two family breadwinners are in the ground. Whenever I hear the fable of the bad guy with a gun being stopped by the good guy with a gun, I am thinking about everyday bullshit situations like above.

@rebelinsteel I don't think that's his PoV; I think he's pointing out that it's harder for nutters to kill people in countries that aren't flooded with guns. There was another case in the UK where a terrorist attacked people with a blade and was kept at bay with a narwhal tooth. You can run away or throw things at an attacker with a knife.

41.4 percent of homicides in England and Wales are committed with knives and sharp objects, and that's still a lower rate than the 8.5% of similar murders in the US.

Restricted is an understatement, they banned everything, we have done similar in the UK in stages and plenty of guns still turn up both illegal and originally legal but just long forgotten service revolvers and rifles

No, they didn't ban everything. Not even close. There are more legal firearms in Australia today than in 1996. (The population has expanded greatly, and regulations make it easier to own two firearms and leave one at the gun range.)
