Before you call out Israel for genocidal behaviour, read the Hamas charter - it's online in several places - where it calls explicitly for the conversion or killing of everyone that rejects their interpretation of islam in the whole area from the Euphrates to the Mediterranean.

It's founders in the 1930s were allied with the Nazis, meeting with Hitler in person to help with the extermination of the Jews, starting with mainland Europe then the Holy Land.

Do I think there should be a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza? Absolutely. Unfortunately, Hamas rejected the call for a ceasefire from the United Nations.

Hamas is known to recruit teenagers as young as 14/15 and arm them with soviet era automatic weapons. When the IDF storms a building or hits it with mortars then these child soldiers are often inevitably killed or wounded. Since the Hamas controlled reports of casualties are all the bleeding hearts have to go on, the reports say - correctly - that teenagers have been killed. But a lie of omission is still a lie. Before any pictures are issued, their weapons are moved out of sight.

So does the IDF kill kids who should be being taught in schools, safe from the fighting? Yes.

But...

Does Hamas recruit children to be part of their jihad to exterminate not only the nation of Israel, but every single Jew anywhere? Also YES.

I'm not in favour of prolonging the slaughter of the Palestinians OR the Jews. But you have to ask, what's so important to Hamas that drives them to want to exterminate the Jews and claim a piece of mostly desert land the size of New Jersey when all North Africa, the rest of the Middle East and Saudi Arabia into India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and beyond are already under Sharia law?

I think we have to be careful we do not use the term "genocide" too lightly. Was what the US did firebombing Japan genocide? No its was total war. I have very strong opinions of how the Israelis are conducting the war against Hamas and their lack of care in targeting civilians but it is not genocide. The 15 Billion by the way way includes aid to Palestinians as well.

Which rhetoric would that be - the term genocide? Ok, if you don't like that, try "mass murders of civilians under the pretense of war". Call it whatever you like, Israel has made it clear they don't just want recognition, but rather the annihilation of anyone whom they consider an enemy.

Hamas is a relatively small group of individuals compared to "all people who consider themselves Palestinians". If you are to believe the reporting of Abby Martin vs the Israeli propaganda machine, she'll tell you her experience has been one-sided. She'll tell you that the vast, and I do mean VAST majority of Jews living in Israel do indeed want Palestinians either gone, or even better, dead.

She'll also tell you that "most Palestinians just want to be left alone to live, and for Israel to stop what they're doing and have been doing for the past 75 years. Of course, at this point, you can expect to hear more and more Palestinians wanting to end Israel altogether, for obvious reasons, and "most Palestinians" will quickly become "only some Palestinians".

@loveslongnails I travel a lot for work. I used to do regular trips to Tel Aviv. Funny I never seemed to encounter the hatred for Palestinians you describe. Most Israelis I encountered seemed just as frustrated their leaders could not find a solution that both Israelis and Palestinians can live with. Instead of focusing your vitriol on the people of Israel maybe focus it on the leadership and fringe minority that have led the country down this path... I would say the same thing about the leadership of the Palestinians. I recommend as well maybe its time for you to sit down and have a real conversation with some Jews or Israelis... real world problems are seldom fixed with hatred. Hate only breeds more hate.

I agree with your last statements wholeheartedly, but I can't speak to your personal experiences in Tel Aviv. As you said, you "used to travel to Tel Aviv". A lot has happened since several years ago to elevate the animosity. When I scour the internet for as much information as I can get on the temperament of Israeli citizens, it's difficult at best to attain. There are polls taken by everyone from CNN to WSJ to the Israeli Times to Al Jezerra. Some polls have support for him as PM as low as 28%, others as high as 46%. There's very little information about the thoughts of your average Israeli citizen, but a few things have leaked out.

I don't want to go back thousands of years to establish "who hated who first", but I can say this much. There have many massacres on both sides, Islam and Jewish. There was a point in time where the Muslim, Christian and Jew lived side by side in the same territory without killing one another, but that seems impossible to attain again at this point.

I've plenty of disdain for the Israeli fringe minority, just like I do for the ones in the USA who support this path, and similarly horrible ones, for my own country. The feeling of helplessness is overwhelming.

@loveslongnails Last time I traveled to Israel was just before Oct 2023 Travel is my work. I experience all kinds of different cultures and have found that we have much more in common than differences. We could use a few more leaders on this planet like Nelson Mandela than Netanyahu. I try to refrain from attacking a people given my experience. Now I can fault the people of Israel maybe a bit more than the Palestinians... they live in a democracy. They have the tools to remove their leadership more easily than the Palestinians. But the Palestinians do not get a free ride either... they need to find a way to remove Hamas from so called representing them.

I never questioned that. Most people want very similar things out of life, but many can't look past either ages of hatred usually involving race or religion, or skin color. You think THIS is an attempt at genocide? What's happening now is a last-ditch attempt to avoid genocide; essentially, an Israeli Trail of Tears. Israel does not fuck around in these matters. If they were actually attempting genocide, you wouldn't see freely published pictures of the loved ones of the innocent victims wailing over the dead; you probably wouldn't see any pictures at all that the Israeli government didn't want you to.

It's an attempt to show the Palestinian people what "total war" actually means- to make them think that maybe, just maybe, building your entire national philosophy around killing your neighbor is a BAD idea.
