How can Hamas be this out-of-touch with reality?

The disgusting crimes they committed on October 7th are THE LAST STRAW. There's not going to be some deal where you say you can become just a normal political party and participate in a Palestinian government. You are going to be destroyed as thoroughly as possible. You will never rule ANYTHING ever again.

You can hold that opinion if you like. This is how diplomacy and politics works however and has happened countless times in history. Arguably it would even be the most efficient way to end this conflict which would otherwise be extremely difficult.

You can't just bomb Hamas away. Attacking them directly will just strengthen their cause and provide them with new volunteers and resources. Actually defeating them is incredibly difficult and by far the easiest way is to make them into a political entity like they wanted.

That said, this current deal from Hamas is a non-starter because they want Jerusalem to become Palestines new officially recognized capital and it does not sound like USA nor Israel is particularly interested in including Hamas in the first place.

But Hamas asking for political representation is not only realistic but very common in these situations.

Willing or not, you have the answer to the question of what happens when you do not "negotiate with terrorists". 9/11 happened 20 years ago and we are still feeling the fallout from the choices made back then and the middle east has only gotten worse since.

All the American lives and money poured into trying to "fix" the middle east has been completely wasted not to mention the cavalcade of failures did not even begin with 9/11. No, that started more like 100 years ago.

100-ish years of failing in the middle east and THIS is the current results. What are you planning to achieve honestly? If you want a cessation to hostilities, to have people stop dying and for the region to recover then you are going to have to take another approach.

There are other ones as I have said but do you truly think you will be able to achieve the harder paths when you have failed with literally everything up until now? Giving them political representation is by far the easiest and most realistic solution and historically the way these things gets resolved.

Your option is either that.. or keep spending money and lives to bomb the middle east for another 100 years without any progress. I might be "stupid" but at least I know my options.

Their commanders probably thought the arab world and the outcry from the world wouldn't allow Israel to do whatever it wants and they could get away with it. Backfired like crazy and although there are a lot of talks and condemnation, Israel has got the green light to destroy Hamas as they wish. Time will tell if there will be anything of Hamas left.

No. The people in question here is actually afraid of USAs peace plan. Israel has not done anything but play into the hands of Hamas so on that front things went exactly as they had planned. The fact that USA has stepped in and preparing for some kind of two-state solution however and getting the support of surrounding Arab nations was NOT part of Hamas plans and, if successful, would destroy Hamas.

So the reason these commanders wants to be included is because they love power and this way they can still personally maintain some of that if USA succeeds. They are not ideologues who believe in the cause, they are power hungry bastards who saw Hamas as an excuse to enrich themselves and do what they want.
