As opposed to what? Do USA need more politicians or greedy bankers? Actually you know what, screw that. There are two ways to view education, one in which you do what other people wants you to do and learn to become a good little cog in the corporate machine, and the other where you do what you yourself likes. I, as a person who actually respect other peoples privacy and right to make their own decisions in life got no problem with someone not choosing their education based on what is more economically beneficial for someone else.

When did USA, the land which supposedly values personal freedom and pursuit of happiness suddenly become the land of "you do what we tell you to do". Shame on you Dargil for propagating this toxic culture.

The derision about "useless" degrees is misguided and disingenuous. ALL EDUCATION is useful. You're asking about it's potential link to employment which is a separate question.
Most credentials / degrees face a supply and demand challenge. By any serious measure, a JD is by FAR the most "useless" degree since there is an absolute glut of attorneys and many in fact do not even end up practicing law. The most "useful" are education and nursing as a simple function of demographics.
The observed phenomenon is simply that it's taking longer to launch a CAREER not a JOB.

I'm a former public school teacher. To the extent that more vocational education is being introduced (something that all students should be required to take), students will be OK. It's primarily math and foreign languages where the US is especially deficient.

I teach at an urban college. I am appalled at how poorly the students are prepared for college. They cannot do basic math or write at a high school level. I do not blame them, they are victims of a failing public school system.
