When it comes to identifying who you are why is race /ethnicity so important to people?

Race does correlate - not perfectly, but to some extent - with certain behaviors and beliefs. So does gender and sexual orientation. People on the left don't want to believe those statements and I expect I will be called names for making those statements. However inconvenient those statements are for the left's agenda, the statements are true.
