What is the point of keeping murderers, rapist and pedophiles alive
risking the fact that they might escape at any moment?

For example, Ted Bundy was a serial killer in the 80
He escaped prison 2 times while waiting for trial
Both times he killed more people

before anyone says that we might excute people by mistake , I think making the stake as high as killing someone will improve the accuracy of judicial system

i am personally operating under the moral code that killing another human is wrong. it is always wrong and there's only one notable exception and that is "by accident in self defense". even in self defense your first goal should not be to end the other persons life. the first goal schould be preserving your own bodily integrity and if you're operating under that premise and failed "not" to kill the other person, i think that is morally permissable.

so that means under my moral code (which by the way the entire society i live in agrees with) any intentional and planned killing is morally wrong and should be illegal. that includes killing by government officials as punishment for some commited crime.

Take the unsolved serial murderer called zodiac killer. He told in clues he believed all his victims will be slaves in he'll. So if we find him he should get a fast pass to his own palace? If we kill him he becomes a martyr to there own legend. Forever immortalized to living history as the monster he wants to be know as.

Now take the golden state killer. Just as famous during the same time. We'll he was caught 2020 I think and he's just an old man dying in jail. He's a trial question now. In a few years he's going to be like everyone else forever forgotten.

yea. most serious criminals are clinical sociopaths or psychopaths and will likely reoffend again. for certains crimes like pedophilia and rape they often reoffend right out of prison and go in and out of prison until they're too old to fuck around. they also can't feel remorse for their actions because of how their brain is structured. so we litterally pay taxes to house them, feed them, for no reason. it's not inhumane to kill monsters who can never repent

I definitely support the death penalty. It would protect innocent people and save tax dollars used to house criminals. I would include the death penalty for crimes of fraud and theft and for minors who torture innocent people to death. In Canada, minors usually get less than 5 years, even for rape combined with murder.

Voted "No." The purpose of the law in general and the penal system in particular is first and foremost, to protect society, second to punish the guilty and third and least, to reform the criminal if possible. In that order.

Capital punishment, generally speaking, does not seem to afford those benefits. First, it is the surety of punishment, not its severity, that is a deterrent to crime. If an individual is sure that they will be punished, they will likely not act. If that individual believes that they might get away with it, they will likely run the risk.

So in that sense, capital punishment fails its first and most important test. It does not deter and therefore it does not protect the society. Throw in that it applies only in cases of premeditation - crimes of passion are not premeditated - and the range of those whom capital punishment applies becomes proportionately smaller.

Secondly, it is axiomatic that we shape our laws and then our laws shape us. In that context, capital punishment reflects - and is a result of - the society's treatment of life as a means rather than an end. In this it is the parallel of the abortion argument. The planted axiom of liberal abortion laws is that life has no value save that which each individual attributes to it, therefore the law has no proper standing to afford it protection.

Capital punishment is a case of the society deciding that the value of life is contingent rather than absolute. That action decides life's value rather than life's inherent worth. When the society places vengeance over any inherent value to life, it will apt in its larger context to see more of the former and value the latter less and less.

To be sure, in the matter of capital punishment that is at the margins and dealing with decidedly unsympathetic individuals. Arguably the case can be made that "killing the killer" suggests that society places a much higher value on life. However, on balance, the inspiration of capital punishment is vengeance and not justice and thus both the value of life and the value of justice is undermined.

Beyond that, humans are imperfect and there are issues related to failings of the legal system. In the question of justice, the accidental execution of the innocent is not an injustice that can be undone. Indeed, it is what suggests that vengeance - and not justice - is what inspires laws that condone capital punishment.

In short, capital punishment harms society with too few countervailing benefits.

For certain cases with solid evidence. Yes. Criminals who do not give their victims chance deserve no less than that last min fear of their lives being taken from them. It's more likely a kinder end too.
If this world supported cause and effect or repercussions for actions there would be less criminals. There are areas with decent law enforcement. Mine is not one of them. It's a harvesting ground of people growing with a "I can do what I want attitude." And leads to more dangerous crimes.

Not only has in been proven that it isn’t a deterrent but it also has killed innocents. If your going to kill an innocent man for murder then you might as well kill the judge the jury and the prosecutor when he is found innocent after his death. Another reason why I’m against it is because it shows how barbaric our society still is. It shows that we would rather take a life than save it. We have the resources to prevent crimes and the rehabilitate criminals and yet we still prefer to watch them suffer. And don’t give me that “justice” bullshit there’s no such thing.

There are people who are wrongly servicing sentences and are later found innocent. Primarily black inmates in America. This is why I don’t support the death penalty.

It’s those terrorists that shout up schools, churches, synagogues, grocery stores, music events, etc. they are clearly guilty of hate crimes by murder then yes absolutely they deserve the death penalty. Sometimes I think the death sentence is too good for them.

If we're going to have a death penalty, it should be done online so that anyone can watch it, not hidden in some back room with only a few witnesses. If we can't do thst, then maybe we shouldn't be executing people.

No, death penalty cost more then life in prison and one too many innocent people have been executed. An innocent person can be freed from prison, but they can't be brought back to life. FYI, the fear of getting the death penalty is sometimes used to get innocent suspects admit to a crime and accept a plea deal.
