I understand the role that they play in preventing domestic terrorists and helping the police force but how much can we trust them not to spy on us for shits and giggles? It doesn’t feel like putting tape over the webcam is enough when they can hear all your phone calls and read all your texts.

That it would be on the single most stupid things the US could do and would have a direct impact on global stability. The domestic side is a really small part of their role, they are a key part of the GCHQ setup and feeds into 5 eyes. Also a bit like the UK use NSA for internal monitoring, I would hazard a guess GCHQ does a reciprocal bit with NSA.

All federal law enforcement and national security agencies are corrupt and most state ones are as well. And this is true with Democrat jurisdictions and Republican jurisdictions. Our government is the most corrupt it has ever been right now.
