Not if you mean sitting right next to the opposite gender but in some cultures the public bathroom is one giant room and one half is for women and the other for men. You can only see into the hand washing part of the other room. Sometimes they are openly connected. Other times there is a glass divider. It's smart because women are like a bunch of sheep and a man is like a lion/wolf. One bad guy on the woman's side and she'd want other guys to know.

Not a problem. That's what most homes are. There are lots of times when I or my wife is sitting on the toilet and the other walks in to brush teeth or wash their face and hands.

@McLlovin I've had friends and other family members walk in, not realizing I was there. Never bothers me. Having said that, I'm guessing that more women than men would have a problem with unisex bathrooms.
