No. The British are like the Welsh; they never actually succeeded in kicking the English out. The Scottish did, but then went bankrupt in Old New Caledonia and had to come crawling back. The Irish did- well, mostly. The Canadians gained "independence" in the most Canadian way possible- asking politely- but it only consisted of dissolving their ties with the UK Parliament; not actually removing the queen from her position as the head of their nation. These people demanded LESS representation in their government, and then wonder why Quebec wants to secede.

The reality is the war for us didn't end there, it continued with France for a long time after and cost thousands of lives on both sides before we won.

Since the American sideline we've had a major war with France and 2 big ones with Germany. We've put them all behind us which seems something America isn't capable of doing with the war of independence.

Cinco de Mayo is mistaken as Mexican Independence Day. It is NOT. Mexico won a battle against French forces at the battle of Puebla in 1862, and the French did not leave Mexico till 1867. The city of Puebla celebrates the winning of that battle on May 5th with military reenactments. For the rest of Mexico it is not a national holiday. Mexicans actually celebrate their independence on Sept. 16.
