Intensely explicit language, intense graphic violence, highly sexualized content and extremely crude humor
The Bible predicted we would reach a point where good is called evil & evil is called good. I think we entered that time a few years back and things keep getting worse and worse. If I were 20s I wouldn't bother planning for retirement. Things are going to get a lot worse.
There's a good video on what is happening and were it's all going here: The Zombie Apocalypse has Begun
The more things are used, the more spectacular they have to be to get that same reaction from people because they get used to it when it's used all the time and it doesn't have the same impact. In other words people get jaded when they hear the same things over and over. They start to just accept it as normal and nothing special.
So the only way to get the same reaction from people is to make them even more offensive than they were the last time. That is until those things become overused too, and then they have to get even more offensive to mean anything.
This happens with language a lot. The word "racist," for example, is thrown around so much that it doesn't even mean anything anymore. It's so overused that people don't even pay attention to it. The word has become meaningless.
Propagandists understand this concept and manipulate the language to promote their own agenda.
Bc we're in an increasingly sensationalist culture. Respect, values and all the good things that form solid foundations have been chucked right out the window. It's prevalently reflected in the people being chosen (or allowed to serve as) world leaders. No one is focused on making good choices anymore...
Couldn't have typed it better, DishLady !!!
At one time comedians were good. now they need sex, cursing, and vulgarism to get laughs. Then you wonder what kind of people can only be entertained by this drivel they spout.

As humans we always were like this, just expanded as time went on. It has downsides and plus sides, people can & will be offended while others not so much. I don’t see a problem as long as the individual viewer, reader, player understands “it is only entertainment NOT real life” sort of deal.
In France it has aways been glorified, it make men feel manly and as for women becasue of feminism you can not say is it improper for a lady to swear so they begin to do it too to look cool (being submissive, cute, shy is seen as being a very bad things for majority of French culture).
All mores and conventions get diluted and distorted over time.
Great example is interracial marriage and cigarettes. Only two generations ago gay marriage was taboo but everybody smoked; now the smokers get looks of disapproval and nobody bats an eye at gay marriage.
I agree its a race to the bottom but new ones always come up. My favorite was from the 1950s:
Is it appropriate to undress in front of the TV? 😂😂😂🤔
If you pay attention to that stuff then that’s all you’ll see. I don’t watch news, or media, no news paper or radio. I don’t vote or own a gun.
Others seem obsessed with all tbat stuff, they insist it’s important to the point they’ll kill and abuse people over it. So I chose not to be bothered
Why not when the world's turning to shit?
If you're house is burning down, are you going to leave in a orderly and quiet fashion, or are you going to going to get out in a panic like everyone else?
They aren't but I like the fact you think so. Progress is accepting these things than pretending they don't exist while some king happily kills a bastard child. I am sure that's much worse than a film.
Words are just words, and I'm constantly baffled at the way people treat certain words as serious business and call them things like "vulgarities". You're being fucking ridiculous.
You sir must be a BIG fan of my favorite philosopher George Carlin. His "7 words you can't say" was one if the greatest bits EVER. The man was a fucking genius!
American standards have never really been that high...
Probably, but I haven't been around enough to know what it was like years ago.
Eyeballs have become the highest value currency and those things attract eyeballs.
Objectivity, they're just words. Unless you use them against anyone which is crossing the line. But people don't even have to be vulgar to attack anyone verbally for it almost doesn't matter.
*so it almost doesn't matter
Also the words meaning just change over time. When "dick and pussy" use to be just a name and just another word for a cat. And when "Bejabbers" use to be a cuss word but now no one knows what that means anymore. Those vulgar words you keep hearing now may just be starting to be natural nowadays.
That's an excellent point on the evolution of language. Words constantly come in and out of favor and change meanings. One generations vulgarity is another generation's adjective.
Update: it's still involves the same principle. Like for example, this isn't the baroque era anymore were people have to be so polite and have to wear powdered wigs, gilded clothes with certain mannerisms to just be considered appropriate. But we all know attacking someone or just being rude that can affect people's time, convince and dignity should not be tolerated and that's something people can agree on no matter what era it is.
I would much rather have that than live in some pussified country which restricts my freedom of speech.
Agreed. It's the most offensive speech that is most in need of protection.
@DrPepper12 I think that's the most I have ever agreed with you ever.
Probs! One of the reasons i support the ACLU. "Our only client is the Constitution"
I don't think ANY so-called "foul language" should be censored in any way, under any circumstance whatsoever. I also do not believe in censoring language around kids. Also, little kids should also be allowed to swear!
Vulgarities are one more part of our "common person" culture.
On our way to Idiocracy one generation at a time...
@DrPepper12 We've been on the idiocy path for about a half-century, and we've run rather than walked there since the O. J. trial ushered in the Reality TV Era.(Oje would have been 77 today. Wonder if people get birthday cakes in Hell?)
So true. I've seen it with my own kids and students. We've created a generation of blamess victims in their minds.
Great story: My son and my nephew asked me to call balls and strikes when they were playing wiffle ball. I lost my fucking mind!! I grabbed a patio chair and said "There's your strike zone" What i took for granted they thought i had the wisdom of Solomon.
I think it is just more common in informal speak but I doubt it will ever be acceptable in a formal context.
Because there’s so few words and things that everybody understands.
Funny you should say that. I'm very anti-religion but it pains me that society has lost all reference points that used to be religious like "throwing the first stone", the dove and olive branch, "30 pieces of silver", etc. for all the things that I dislike about it it did provide a common reference point for a very long time.
Well Firstly they've been around for quiet awhile. So, that's it.
I think people are being made this way now it probably comes from TV music and movies
cuz people push limits to see what they can get away with
Any proof of this claim?
No fucking idea...
immaturity
How so? On whose part The listener or the speaker?
@DrPepper12 speaker. Profanity is a crutch. They think it makes them sound adult or tough or street
