Wait a second... much competition keeps the prices low.
Higher prices would mean that working/employed people will ask for higher salaries. This will lead to higher prices for everything else on the long run.
Where 'for free' of course always is the more interesting choice :)

Yes it keeps prices low but it's pretty shit for those workers who can barely feed themselves. It was that mentality which caused the Russia revolution. Much better to pay prostitutes a decent wage but give discounts to those in need via government vouchers

In theory but it's hard to sort out how that would work out in practice. Like, would there be trade schools for it? There should be, as not only is the act sort of important but it seems really important to hammer home the knowledge that a woman can only reasonably expect to be successful as a prostitute until she is in her mid 20s and will need a realistic plan for her life after that. How would it be regulated? Drug and std tests would have to be mandatory. Moreover would we require background checks? Probably necessary. What if it turns out a client is married? Should we require the wife to approve? How do we handle abuse? Obviously prosecution but how would it be proven? Do we put cameras in the brothel rooms? There's a lot to it that seems to get in the way of why anyone would want to go to a prostitute in the first place, all of which is sure to raise prices unless it is subsidized, which seems like a stretch, so a "black market" seems pretty much inevitable. Which is the same as being illegal.

100%. But it would need to be monitored (brothel owners not keeping more than a certain percentage, frequent STD checks, required condoms if she wants, regular wellness checks, paying taxes, a fair minimum wage+a fair percentage of what the customer pays, etc.

YES and NO. That's what's so silly and confusing about U. S. law. State laws can be in direct violation of federal laws. Technically, the federal government could shut all those brothels down and arrest everyone.
Same as the feds can arrest you for marijuana possession, even if it's legal in your state. I honestly don't understand how that works.
But people here always get so confused on 4th of July and New Years, because fireworks are legal in the city, but not in the county. But the city is part of the county. But they're separate jurisdictions.

While I would never go myself as I find having to pay for sex pretty pathetic and wouldn't want to ever have that kind of fake interaction with a girl, I say let people be people.
