Does any one else think its beyond stupid that expired ID's are suddenly trash?

I tried to buy an alcoholic drink once with an expired license and the woman said she couldn't give me a drink because it expired. I'M SORRY. DID I STOP AGING?

I dont find that strange at all. I mean the ID does not have an inherent value by itself. It is only valuable because the government is trusting it and they have promised to do so within the expiration date. It is a system built on trust and it makes perfect sense that they demand you to get a new ID to renew that trust.

Yeah that makes it not official, pretty simple, and they won't except an expired one cause it's so damn easy to keep it up or renew it that it is highly suspicious if someone dosent have a current id.

I will never get a logical explanation. I've tried. Everyone harps on "derp it's teh LaW, dat's why!" but nobody answers the question of "Why". The license to drive is invalid, not the invalid holding it. Even if it's a non-driving State ID, the person did not stop being the person on the ID simply because they didn't pay the renewal fee on it.
