Soon, it will be law for everyone in the UK to have a digital ID card on their phone to be carried with them at all times. Employers will need to check it before employing you.
I think it's a great idea because it'll also let the government see how many steps you've taken in a day and stuff like what pub you drink in. It'll help cut back on cheating and crime because they'll be able to see who's next to each other.
Some people are opposed but that's cos they're up to no good, like posting bad stuff online but the ID card will sort them out.
Interestingly, the Swiss citizens just voted this Sunday on what is called eID and that has been accepted in a very small majority of the voting population.
Like in the UK, it is a way to control the citizens and there is no guarantee whatsoever that the data will not be leaked out or hacked.
While in the UK, the Digital ID card may be mandatory, in Switzerland it will be on a voluntary basis and is supposed to help with identification purposes.
I am totally against governments having even more control of its citizens. At this rate, the glass citizen is only a matter of years rather than decades. There will be no way to keep your privacy, even at home.

Of course. And every credit card. And every other kind of loyalty program. But this is tied directly to the government, which means the government will have direct access to your information - live and historical - without having to seek a warrant or any other guardrails. That's terrifying. But even worse, foreign companies and criminals will inevitably find their way to getting this info too. Imagine a stalker being able to track their victims because of a government ID app. It's only a matter of time before that happens.
Our government tries to popularize digital ID but it fails. My tax expert who is lawyer said I shouldn't make any. There are many reasons, but main one is delivering of advice note from courts and other govt. agencies counts as delivered in moment they send it to your Digital ID account. In reality they need your signature you got those advice note delivered by postman or messenger otherwise it's not delivered and you can claim you didn't know anything. In our constitution every citizen is obliged to own a valid ID card but isn't obliged to carry one all the time. Of course if you have an digital ID on your phone and police demands your ID you can't say them to "f... off." like you can with plastic ID.
I would check how the digital ID law looks in regard with advice notes before I start to cheer.
I wouldn't want someone knowing everything i do. I do the right thing because it's what I believe is the right thing to do. Someone else might not see what I'm doing as the right thing. I think Freedom knowing what I think is right and what you think is right might not be the same thing. But we still have to live together. If you point out when I do what you think it's right it just makes me want to prove to you it is right... that's the world we live in... so would it be better for someone to say right is this and you all have to do exactly this to be right... honestly I don't think that's right... what a wonderful world we live in 😉
It is pure evil. The Nazis had the same idea when they tattooed numbers on people's arms. If the Nazis had digital technology, they would have used digital ID instead of demanding to see your "papers".
Digital ID means that you are government property. You are merchandise with a bar code. They can see your finances. They can see your medical records and if you have been properly vaccinated. They can see any encounters with the police. They can see what you buy. They can see your lifestyle and habits, including bad ones.
All this will lead to a social credit score system.

It's a great idea. Big Brother loves it. So do the phone companies. Everyone will now have to buy a phone , and get rid of all those old flip phones. What a great asset to a foundering economy. Maybe this will reverse Brexit. 😏

Although personally not directly concerned, considering every official citizen here has already a normal ID card, I guess that in the UK the idea is to force people to own a smartphone in order to get that "digital ID card" ? Having a classic ID card has multiple advantages, but a digital one, isn't it rather "volatile" ?
For to me mysterious reasons the British people seem not eager to have a mere ID card; why would they be more compliant with a digital one?
No, the government knows too much about me already. I do not have an EZ Pass and I pay cash for most things. I do not pay bills on line and I was one of the last 3 people who did not get direct deposit. Finally they made me do it but it was under protest.
No, in my opinion, it is all about control. It’s about big Brother taking even more advantage of his citizens and although I’m not English, I Hate for this to happen anywhere we need to stand up against this everywhere starting with England. This kind of tyranny should not be tolerated.
