Recently the UK PM announced they would be rolling out digital ID in the near future and if you do not decide to get it, you will not be allowed to work.

I like the idea of it, and I'm sure it works great in other countries, but I'm absolutely 100% certain the UK government is not capable of implementing it effectively.

It gets even worse when you learn that the preferred bidder for the contract to implement the digital ID system is Fujitsu, who were responsible for:

* The NHS digital patient records system, which cost more than £12 billion, and was abandoned before it was even finished.

* The (government-owned) Post Office's accounting system, which was so broken it led to more than 900 postmasters being wrongfully convicted of theft and fraud, and in many cases, jailed.

* Several failed major IT projects in other countries, including a digital ID service in Japan, which it was forced to suspend multiple times, because of widespread problems with it.

Other (non-Fujitsu) failed government IT projects include:

* The Universal Credit IT system, which went £10 billion over budget, and is still broken today.

* The "Universal Jobmatch" job search service, which welfare recipients were required to use, but which was overrun with fake, fraudulent job listings (more than half of all listings were scams). Plus, the job of creating the system was outsourced to the recruitment company "Monster", who intentionally made it bad, to ensure it couldn't compete with their own website.
