As a country we have done far worse to other countries, we have assassinated other countries leaders to place our own, we have tested drugs on populations resulting in many diseases from that population. The government of our country is corrupt. Killing someone they don’t agree with and sweeping it under the rug is not new to them. Take Jeffrey Epstein for example.

The latest I've heard from a reputable source is they knew there was a potential threat a half hour before. But they didn't know it was crooks or where the threat was. The only thing that makes me scratch my head is if the didn't know ANYTHING. How did they ascertain this so quickly and neutralize him when the shooting was in progress.

I talked to a secret service agent the day after this happened and he made it clear that the reason they are required to hold off on shots is that someone else has to confirm the threat. Until any shooting starts, obviously. If someone physically within the portion of the grid near the potential threat can confirm there is a weapon and it's not LE/gov, then the snipers can shoot. From that distance and angle it would have been difficult to tell if the shooter had a rifle or not. And people crawl on roofs to get better vantage points all the time. Even if it's stupid.

I'm only saying this in defense of the sniper, and absolutely no one else. That was a failed mission, by every metric possible.
