I’m Jewish, and even I was offended by drag queens mocking Christ, and The Last Supper! I would be equally offended if a bunch of Christians dressed in drag and mocked Islam, or Judaism! Why was I offended, because I am a thinking person, with the ability to empathize with other human beings, whether I share their faith or not! People’s religious beliefs mean a lot to them, to some it means everything, even though I don’t agree with, or even believe in their religion I still respect it and their faith! I mean look, don’t need to be married to understand that mocking a woman's husband will not end well for me!
If they TRULY meant NO offense, then why ONLY Christianity? Why not do a side-by-side Last supper, AND The Prophet Mohamed's (PBUH) wedding to a 6 y/o girl? They didn't mock Islam, because they would have been arrested for hate speech! Christianity is the only religion that one can mock these days in Europe without fear of being arrested, cancelled or getting killed! Do you honestly believe the International Olympic Committee would have allowed them to mock Islam, or Judaism, or Hinduism, or Buddhism, or ANY other religion? Not just no, but HELL NO! Rednecks are their own culture and so are Drag Queens so I just turn accept it, the question is: Why can’t they just accept Drag Queens? It's not a place to be making statements about social beliefs. This is the exact kind of thing that the Olympics is meant to not bring attention to.
If an athlete wants to say something about LGBT or religion or whatever that's one thing. But for the event organizers, the people who's responsibility is to take charge in the tradition of trying your best to unite as humans setting aside our cultural differences under something we can all understand, it was incredibly inappropriate what they did.
It was just the wrong time and place for what they were trying to do and very childish behavior from everyone involved. They should be ashamed and should apologised to the people around the world they're pushing their ideas onto.

The international olympic committee was started in 1894 with the first modern game taking place in 1896. Fun fact, the guy who did it was French and from Paris. Or he operated out of Paris, not looking it up.
That Olympic game took place after a roughly 1,500 year break from the ancient games which ended when Rome took over Greece.

Well I just hate Drag overall so yeah, it's not really the religious thing that gets me because I couldn't care about that. Trans are great, I have no ill will to gender or sexuality.
Drag is not that, they are just extremists who have fun annoying people with their antics, they know themselves this is weird, absurd and will annoy people. They even evoke a lot of drama to each other for the sake of it. Tbh I think Drag actually goes so far to undermine trans people who have genuine feelings about their gender not this hocus pocus.

I don't get "last supper", I thought this was portrayal of profet mohammed with a selection of his virgins he was awarded. Clearly the woman in middle is his honorable mother and the others are the virgins awarded, he is on the side.
Clearly too difficult to get a large number of virgins in the photo, so was just a few. Very creative, but not sure was in good taste.
so calling it a "last supper" is insulting... he gets to dine and enjoy their company for eternity. This is the eternal supper...
To me it was completely unnecessary part as there is no connection to sports in that show. It was too much of everything and it seemed like it was made that way on purpose. It was made to send a political message and they take away from the sport event to that as the camera flipped in every possible opportunity away from the sport teams to that supper and make it the main character. It was like you don´t care about olympia without telling you don´t care about olympia.
Ummmm there were many things that were not part of sports that were apart of the opening ceremony. Like the Eiffel towel, the louvre, the art work, and so on. All these things were a part of the host nation including the last supper painting. Granted the one they keep comparing it to is da Vinci’s but he wasn’t the only one to paint it. If anything they were replicating the renaissance area and its artwork and putting a new spin on a classic.
With the difference that the Eifel tower, the louvre and those pieces of art are sights that Paris is known for. They are of cultural importance to the country. They´ve could have shown part of the French and the European society in general but they decided to show off the minority of the minority as a key character of the whole show.
I would like to add that thanks to Julie4 I know more about the background as using the feast of the God´s by Jan van Biljert as a source seems more plausibel to me. That would make sense as the original title of the painting is french and it´s hanging in a French museum. Also I read in an article today that the creators of the scene used Biljert as their source of inspiration. That´s something the TV commentators at least in my country didn´t know as they talked about what everyone saw.
I'm not offended at all. I'm not Christian nor Catholic, so that doesn't affect me.
The reason why I think it offended so many people is because they felt that their religion was being mocked and disrespected. Besides, we all know that the Catholic Church hates the LGBTQ+ community. So, the reaction is not a surprise to me.

Well yes there are, alwaya have been and always will be all kind of people. Maybe we should stop with the victim mentallity and do some shit. Where i grew up they tought us to fight back if someone does that to us. I also don't like a lot of shit but if you want your opinion to be heard you should be prepared to hear someone elses too.
That said: 1. I didn't watch the opening ceremonies. 2. Having drag queens is never a good idea for mass entertainment. 3. Whoever thought of this should be fired from future work because A) #2 that I just wrote and that should have been realized and B) the confusion with The Last Supper should have been anticipated. What I am shocked at is not this part of the ceremony as much as how this got through any vetting process. Someone should have been adult enough to say "Hey, this is going on the world stage and, really, this isn't a good idea."

It's based on The Bacchanalia which were Roman Festivals dedicated to the Greek-Roman God Bacchus. Bacchus was the God of Wine, Freedom, Intoxication and Ecstasy.

I've never understood mockery and satire of religion in general. People strive to connect with the divine in different ways. What business is it of mine how a Christian does it or how a drag queen does it? Why put yourself in opposition of a person trying to realize their spiritual potential? It's just bad karma.

First of all there could be a drag Queen Mohammad because there aren’t any pics of him. Second Christians have been making their own changes to their own god for centuries. I think people get sensitive when they see something they hold close to their hearts and emotional invested in gets mocked or used for humor in a way they’re not used to.
It's a Greek God thing, the feast of Dionysus I think. It's not even about Christians. Why would I be offended? The Olympics started as a Greek thing anyway so it makes sense.
