As an American, I am pro-immigration. Every non-indigenous person is the product of of immigration. The diversity of other cultures has enriched this country.

There was a time when immigration was unchecked. There was no need. My ancestors immigrated here from Ireland in the 1850s and didn't have to pass any checkpoints.

But by the 20th century, it became necessary to vet those who came into the country. Unfortunately, racism and xenophobia played some part in that. People from China and Asia, southern and eastern Europe, for example were looked down on by Anglocentric citizens.

In the later 20th century through today, unchecked immigration became a greater and greater problem because of drugs, disease, criminals, gangs, and terrorism.

I don't think this country is overpopulated, but we need honest, hard working people who love America.

Of course we can always use skilled labor. But we are also dependent on unskilled labor - farm workers, laborers, small business entrepreneurs, etc. Immigrants are often very hard working and fill jobs that few others want. We found that out during WWII when we effectively closed the southern border and were then forced to institute the Bracero program to allow migrant laborers into the country.

I don't think any modern country can survive unchecked immigration. Unfortunately, our INS is gravely underfunded and inefficient. It's also corrupt. It is in desperate need of modernization. With the state of modern technology, there is no reason for it to remain so woefully inadequate.

My parents / grandfather were immigrants from Eastern Europe.

But back in those days, in the 1940s or 1970s immigration was around 30k a year net in the UK.

Now it's 700k net.

Absolutely appalling levels.

There are severe problems with integration. A housing crisis where people can't afford to get on the housing ladder in their 30s and 40s. So they're effectively perpetually infantilised. A population crisis because people can't afford to have kids. English people are constantly being shamed, told they're racist, colonial bigots. Even when they've taken in so many already, there is still a sense of 'it's not enough, it needs to be even more, you bigot'. English people are slowly but surely becoming minorities in their towns and cities. The culture is being destroyed. There's a growing sense of unease in communities, an us versus them mentality.

I've nothing against people who come through legitimate channels or even genuine refugees but I think too many are just taking the piss. I know some employers say they need immigration labour because the locals won't do the work but I'd ask how come other employers have no trouble recruiting locally but they do?

No limit to skill, the opposite our local born engineers shouldn't compete with outsiders.

Against a, against b, sometimes c but sometimes a few is okay.

It really depends. These days weak economy not more than 50 immigrants per year one for each state, the first ones to "check all the boxes" then close the door for A Year. Other times more.

In trump economy we can welcome MORE as TRUMP personally welcomed some immigrants to "prove" mainstream media lied about him.

They are not news. When they call themselves news they are like frauds.

I think we have to grow gradually, just taking in anyone from everywhere is only temporarily helps the economy.

I know our current government is letting lots of immigrants into the country, and I say more the merrier, but when we have highest rate of homelessness than ever before, we can't turn our backs on those people that were already living in the country for those entering the country.

I don’t mind people coming to America. Some if They’re qualified and bring something to the table. I just don’t want illegal aliens coming over here and taking all our work away high crime people that have criminal records I don’t mind getting some European people in here

I am Left-Wing and I am Dutch Guy in the UK; need I say more? 😉

However, I am fully aware that unlimited Migration can and will create problems.

I disagree with 'Pro High Skilled Immigration'; I'd say the most vulnerable should be let in first: Refugees over Economic Immigrants.

The 'problem' with Migration to the UK is not the 'Illegal' Refugees... that's so far only 13,500 people... Legal Immigration currently stands at 800,000 a year!; yeah, I do have to say that's a little bit too much on a population of only 69 million in a country in which 22% of the population lives in poverty (In the US that's only 11%). Would the UK be a healthy country, with well funded Public Services and people have a good standard of Life; I would not object to the 800,000 a year.

No the UK is not a poor country. There is absolutely no excuse for the high levels of poverty and all comes down to greed of the very wealthy.

There's millions of people trying to get into this country the legal way, it's not really fair to them to just let whoever wants to walk across the border into the country. People fly to Mexico now from all over the world to walk from Mexico to the US to sneak into the country. Good job, Biden.
