Do you think alternative approaches may offer better outcomes?

Do you think alternative approaches may offer better outcomes?

As a woman who was abused my my uncle from age 5 or 6, to age 11, and then raped by him literally hundreds of times beginning just 3 days after my 13th birthday, and continuing almost every weekday for 3 ½ months, until I realized I was pregnant, and he finally gave me something I was more afraid of than him… So no! I want him behind bars until he dies, lust like he was sentenced! They charged him with every single thing he did to me as a separate crime, and used his own diary of the events, and my testimony, as well as the DNA evidence he left in my vagina that day, and the DNA from his baby after it was removed from me as evidence! I want him to ROT in prison! I find that most of the people who want “alternatives to incarceration” have never been victimized by these animals! They have no idea how devastated your life is after they’re done with you, nor could they even give a shit! They belong behind bars! Luckily he will never be eligible for real parole, when they finally parole him for his current prison sentence, in about 7 to 12 years… Then he’ll simply begin life sentence #2 One of his sentences, the one for the very first time he raped me, he received life w/o the possibility of parole! I have no idea if he does that one first, or last. Either way, I don’t care! He can rot in there, if they find out what he did to deserve to be there, and they kill him, I don’t care! It will be a huge financial favor to the state if they did. But I truly do not mind paying extra taxes to keep animals like that way from you, from me, and from every child out there dealing with the trauma of being raped or sexually molested by a dangerous adult with no impulse control!
Now, obviously there are people in prison for far less egregious crimes, and they will have a very difficult time of it when they get out. Not many people want to hire a felon! So yes, for those who are only in for 5, 10, or even 20 years, we need to rehabilitate them and make it easier for them to obtain lawful work outside of the prison! Otherwise, obviously they will be back! But when it comes to child rapists, they will absolutely recidivate! The likelihood over a long-term follow-up period (e. g., 15-20 years) is 25% according to one long-term study of sex offender's! That is 1 in 4 who get CAUGHT! Imagine all the child predators who just got better at predating in prison, and do not get caught? There is nothing anyone can do at the present time to stop a person who is sexually attracted to children, from being sexually attracted to children! So when the prove that they cannot control their behavior… Tell you what, when you allow them to babysit YOUR children, or future children, or nephews and nieces, without cameras watching them, then they can be out in the general public! Until then fck ‘em!
So for non-violent financial criminals, yes there needs to be a way for them to learn about the impact of their crimes, to learn a trade so they can earn a living, and a way to insure the employers, so if anything does happen, they are reimbursed. But violent criminals? If they did not receive life, then they too need mental health care, and vocational rehab so they can learn a useful and needed skill, so they can eventually reintegrate into society. But if you harmed a child, especially sexually, that victim will live with the pain of that for the rest of their life. They will never get parole, there is no “gain time” for a fifty year old woman who was raped by a family member when she was 11, or 12 or 13, or 16. It doesn't matter, that level of betrayal is devastating to anyone, but especially a younger teen or a tween. So no, let them stay in prison until the 25th anniversary of them receiving that 25yr sentence. I would say that they too need a trade so that they can earn a living when they are released, but they also need to be under constant strict supervision, including being fitted with a GPS locator for life! Also, they need to be geofenced, to prevent them from going anywhere near a school, park, or anywhere else kids congregate! They are dangerous, and the sooner people realize that child rapists didn't just make a mistake, to them, their mistake was getting caught! Trust me I’ve done a rotation through a prison, and interviewed these animals. They only care that “The little bitch told her friend” and they got caught! Let them rot!
Thanks for your courageous and well articulated response!
@OlderAndWiser Thank you so much, sweetie! You have no idea how much that means to me.💕🥰
No prisoners just the easiest and was the cheapest way now it is one of the most expensive formats due to the high prison populous. We often use prison as ways to deal with mental disorders and that’s not really a good thing. You can’t solve problems by hiding them away and you can’t fix the issues in the world by shaming them to disappear.
Unfortunately, our prison systems don’t really take into the account the human reality of what it is to have a mind and feelings, and even certain disorders that may present themselves through a developmental stage of somebody’s life.
It’s a big issue that we don’t have a system that promote more mental health and more mental security in individuals rather than promoting broken homes, lost societies, violent Street, offenses, and a poor and broke general population in our economy and society as we stand as human beings.
There are programs that are currently underway and have been tested throughout time, but unfortunately, all these programs are still founded on the prison system dynamic. Until we create a better system technologies that we have in modern time we will ultimately continue to have the same prison issues we have in society. Some of these issues Can last lifetime and very quite drastically.
institutionalization Is a difficult issue that we face currently for example. This issue Because of defenses often, but even more so because of system that makes it so easy to repeat offenses, instead of providing proper assistance where people can be given either the proper financial assistance or mental assistance, so as to deal with the real problems. Often times the lack of assistance leads to repeat offenses To a degree where somebody just gets Accustomed to living in a prison population.
Me personally I think that’s really sad that somebody can be so torn down by a system. That’s so broken that they Normalize going to prison due to a habit that was built by a System that often more than not doesn't fix a single thing. More over the Legal system, we currently have in many countries are skewed, racist, or abused. Leading to a dynamic or minority class that is ultimately abused by that system, and typically for some sort of odd financial gain through a corrupt Socioeconomic politically charged legal system that continues to perpetuate benefits for the few yet not for the many.
So to sum it up Prison is necessary, but what we have made prison and The extent of how common it is just to send people to prison has become ridiculous, costly, led to economic turmoil, led to socioeconomic turmoil, led to political turmoil, and more over, led to a destruction of a system that was never meant to be in place the way it is currently.
More over, it amazes me that in the system that is supposedly created to keep people incarcerated because of punishments such as violence that with an in itself The prison system is inherently violent to be in whether it’s violence from the guards who would protect you if they weren’t otherwise corrupt or violence from the inmates, who will be let do whatever to you because it’s just a large cage in essence and in follow-through.
If people received the real assistance that they were meant to receive at the very beginning of their lives, and parents were given the assistance they needed to take care of their children and provide them the medical and mental structures that they need to have in place for their kids…
Then effectively, we would never have the necessity of a prison system that’s been so inflated.
Unfortunately, it’s much more profitable to keep people down, and keep people jailed cycling funds into a corrupt system then it is to do the right thing. In addition, many prisons are private owned leaving no account for these privately owned businesses and prisons actually treat the inmates. When corporations get to decide on the treatment of people, then people no longer have the ability or power to do anything about it.
When we give up our rights, and let the government go uncontrolled by the people, then it will be an uncontrollable destructive force through the course of time and history.
Are we getting better with many dynamics and seeing the errors of our ways? Sure
Is it happening at a realistic rate that will really create significant change in a time where it is most needed? unfortunately and most likely not.
Why not? Because of human abuse, avoidance, aversion, averías, and greed.
When power goes unchecked power corrupts completely, and when the people no longer have control or power over their own systems, put in place to help the people, then those systems become corrupted by the few who would otherwise take everything from us To line their pockets, to raise their status, and to diminish everyone else around them.
The only other option is that they are blatantly blind to the actions that they do When I say they mean lawmakers, politicians, And public servants alike. All clawing their way to the top while kicking everybody else down.
Unfortunately, this means our prison system will never be a good system or even used correctly. That is my opinion, and I hope it brings insight and thought to the question presented.
I believe its purpose isn't so much to correct criminals (maybe the youth justice system is, but not the adult one), the purpose is to discourage people from committing crimes in the first place. I believe it is doing its job. Crime is still high but it gets lower when we get tough on crime and stop being sympathetic to criminals. Maybe in Norway they can afford to have nicer prisons, but Norway hasn't spent centuries being the dumping ground for the world's unwanted populations like the US has.
Any type re-socialization fails by inmates with impulse control problems or violent personalities. I think we shouldn't even give them a chance to commit another crime.
I would just build a 20m high concrete wall around 10x10km area without any laws and put those criminals there without any hope they can out. It's just fair.
@spartan55 domestic violence is usually a misdemeanor barring some serious injury and drug possession can often be a felony
@Kingofkings1992
Understood, I was attempting to illustrate the difference between violent and non-violent offenders.

We create an outcast forest out in the middle of nowhere. We surround it with military to ensure noone gets out. We send all the really bad and useless people in there and they are never allowed to get out and cannot be allowed any help from the outside.
We put cameras EVERYWHERE. Total police ttate. Social credit system like in China We have the technology now to implement this system.
You litter. Jail. You act disruptive. Jail. Basically if you misbehave in any way in public, JAIL for you. The cameras that are everywhere will identify you and policeman show up to your house the next day and escort you to jail. You keep doing these violations over n over, we send you to the outcast forest and you never come out.
This is how you fix SEVERAL issues of our society. We need to weed out all the useless scum people in our society who are holding us all back.
My personal view is that they need to separate out more those that do commit a crime. There needs to be a greater understanding of the impact of mental health on crime. They need to look at how to treat the mental health issues in order to prevent reoffending. There are habitual criminals who do need long sentences, they also need to make sure new offenders of minor crimes are not put in general prison population with those habitual and serious offenders.
I like this idea a lot ! If a viable alternative to prison is nowhere to be found, I would certainly vote for this, excellent
A correctional facility is a good way to correct the behavior of people. When I say people I mean normal human beings.
In case of savages - typically stocky low IQ men - then a correctional facility is useless not to mention that they would be a treat to the people in there as well.
For savages the appropriate place is in a Zoo! More specifically inside the gorilla cage, so that they know then what savagery is like. They will eat the food that they eat, and see if they can survive the silver back Gorilla alpha male.
Would be so so good for the Zoo business too. I would pay a lot of money to see the aforementioned "men" ripped apart limb to limb by the silver back gorilla.
Prison like we do it here in the USA? Obviously not. Prison like they do it over in Scandinavia? Maybe- but it's not as simple as switching over to do it like they do; complex cultural differences would keep that from achieving what we want it to.
Oh god, the layers of complexity involved in a sound answer to this question? It's killing my brain. I like the idea to attempt at an answer, but really... This is Dark Souls, or Nintendo hard, level right here.
Ouch!
oddly, I cannot edit my main post, so, replying instead. I believe prison is the final stage of a cascading system, trying to trace back the roots initiating this system, I suppose I would find correlations between poverty and crime. So, in a (quite) unrealistic Star Trek way, I'd suggest to cure poverty, which in turn, would protect society, in a better way than prison?
Those are two very different things.
No one is being "corrected" by prison. We know this from the high reoffending rates in places that have shocking prisons like the USA and Israel.
As for "protecting society". Again, a lot of gang lords are in prison, as they are "safer" there. Protected by the state better than they would be out in the street.
The Western ideals of jail have not developed past the Victorian era.
No killing people who kill others in a fast humane way is! This only gives them a free life till they die!
Many criminals released want to go back in cause life is hard!
It is but makes sense
Why work extra when you can just hang out doing nothing in jail?
It's the dumbest social policy ever conceived. "Correctional" institution? PLEASE!! Recidivism goes UP after prison!!! And USA Americans now have PRIVATE FOR PROFIT PRISONS!! WTF?
For some criminals prison is the safest place for them because of public out cry. For others prison isn't a good place ( mentally ill/ unstable and the like) some criminals need more than just sitting in a cell ( drug addicts, thieves and serial criminals ) murderers and the like should be put in solitary confinement for the whole term
Yes, but of course we need more robust bureaucracy to treat each case custom. Drug possession without distribution seems harmless if they’re not parents. So more treatment perhaps.
Unfort the prison system is too corporate owned and lobbied, and anti crime is too easy a sell, rather than blue-bellied drug treatment facility.
Jail may just hide those criminals away from society but it doesn't fix their root cause. Rehabilitation would be better but its just expensive and there is no guarantee because there are just people you can't fix like psychopaths. Jail is just the more efficient punishment. Also if jail was such a nice place, it would basically just encourage homeless people to just do crime because they can see as free real estate.
If jail is that bad, there is a solution. Just don't commit crime or encourage people to not commit crime.
"Correct" is the problem with your question. Prisons are not meant to correct behavior. They are meant to incapacitate criminals. In that respect they are great. Someone commits a crime and shows themselves to be a danger to society, remove them from society to protect society. Very simple math. People who are upset about criminals not coming out as model citizens are faulting prisons for not doing something they aren't meant to do. It'd be like faulting a Lamborghini for not being able to tow a spaceship.
Not the best. Best is death penalty for murder and similar killing. Next best prison with minimal bread water and no mattress.
They reward criminals with better treatments than if they obeyed laws.
Well, there's always brainwashing and programming but, shouldn't that have been used BEFORE they committed the crime?
Maybe if the parents would've raised the kid better, there wouldn't have been crime.
Like, what do you recommend? What’s an alternate punishment for prison?
the environment of prison often reinforces criminal behavior rather than rehabilitating individuals, so keeping them in prison before releasing them could do more harm than good to society... I suggest providing education and vocational training, as these can help prisoners gain skills, making it easier for them to reintegrate and less likely to reoffend
Not always. Many people legitimately need mental help. Throwing them in prison isn’t the solution.
if it is assault then definitely jail time. Theft not necessarily. There must be something which is felt as punishment by the crim and victim.
The purpose of prison is to prevent further offenses against society.. Corrections, however rare, are secondary.
Yes, but the current funding system (govt. monopoly) is wrong. It needs all-out private investment. Anyone fancy a share in Belmarsh?
Simples...
Well then you would have judges getting paid off by people with financial interests in such…
Back in the 90s in the US, I discovered message someone posted on a site. It described a meeting where big name movers in the music industry were going to invest money into these private ran prisons, at the time there was a handful at most. There has only been 2 to 4 companies that provided this service. The kicker to all this was how they were going to fill the prisons.
Their goal was to shift the direction of hip hop towards the more volatile sub genre that we know as gangsta rap. So now you have these artist promoting things like drugs, sex, violence, basically any criminal behavior that can be glorified. Slowly but surely hip hop went that new direction and PP went from a few to several hundred…
It is the best way to protect society. The electric chair also works.
No, they don't. They have tried these "alternatives" in leftist run areas and the results have been a disaster.
If criminals are actually sent to prison, and not released right away, society can be protected. And the best form of "correcting" a criminal is for them to find Jesus, and become a Christian.
If that was working, why do we see Christian criminals?
We do need prison because some people can't be rehabilitation. I think most can ifcww were willing to invest in it more.
Yes, we need alternative approach. Prisons waste so much resources keeping criminals alive for years, they should be given death sentence instead. Just cremate them and be done with it.
No, not if you don’t rehabilitate before you let out.
Yeah. Either that or institute amputation.
Nope
