How did we get to a point where one of the two major parties is actually anti-American?

It used to be Republicans and Democrats differed on some things, but both parties loved America. I can't help but think of anyone who supports Kamala as being far-left and completely opposed to everything this country has always stood for. I view them as the enemy.

Well, republicans figured out long ago that their vision of giving the rich all the money and power is anti American and unpopular. But they wanted to do it anyway. So, they put all of their efforts into figuring out how to convince the general population that it's actually democrats who are anti American and unpopular. None of their efforts are spent on coming up with useful policy - as their policy is already decided (give the rich more money - and anything other than giving the rich more money is literally communism). 100% of their effort is messaging and propaganda. And with the rich backing them, along with the citizens united ruling, republicans have basically unlimited funds for crafting their scam and pushing it in front of as many eyes as possible.

It is just a huge grift. It used to be scammers were tarred and feathered when they were caught scamming. Now we wave their name around on a flag and get mad when anyone calls us weird for worshiping a scammer. Such is the degree of success of the propaganda🤷

The bigger question is how did the US get to the point that civil war is casually discussed, the level of hate generated by both sides is off the scale and until recently that the two best candidates that a country with a huge population, high quality universities and businesses, were two blokes that in normal life you would not let them drive across the country due to their age.

The Cold War happened. Only an ideological threat that strong could have an entire political party convinced that deporting people based on a political belief was justifiable. That they held that suspicion of holding that belief was worthy of criminal punishment was just inexplicable, however, and as anti-American as you can get. That to this day some STILL hold that McCarthy was- oh, wait; were you just limiting this to the Democrats?
