Strictly speaking, humans are probably dumber than they were tens of thousands of years ago. Evolutionary speaking, the pressure to be at a physical and mental peak was greater then. That said, it also meant we were closer to becoming extinct and less resilient. It comes with becoming more successful as a species, you lose some efficiency and you gain diversity and potential. Life is not as straight forward as what people think the law of the jungle is.

But enough rambling. Are people smarter today? No. There is also a decrease in things like mental math skills. However, and this is important, while our ability to recall information has suffered that has coincided with a huge increase in our ability to search for that information. To go back to the maths example, our ability to do mental math might have decreased but our ability to use a calculator has improved much more. We are generally speaking much more capable today simply because we have access to so much more information through that magical phone we have in our pocket.

Well we always were a divided nation, though we got more divided from Trump since he took advantage of that division for his own self interest. President George Washington as he was leaving office, warned Americans about falling to foreign influence, being divided by geographical location North, South, East, West and in general that true patriotism was the preservation of the Union, to keep this country and its people together as The United States of America. President Abraham Lincoln was criticized for his handling of The American Civil War yet with his leadership he stood true as a patriot in the pages of history… We kept to the peaceful transfer of power, keeping America safe, and standing firm & strong with passing legislation that helps the American people… Trump screwed all that up. Now we have morons everywhere who believe we should split this country up, who believe a peaceful transfer of power is just tradition founded and nothing of substance, who believe every blatant lie from Trump regardless of video & audio & photographic evidence…. We are definitely dumber as a society and it frightens me & angers me.

I just want to put a reminder that Mike Pence was the one to call upon the National Guard troops to be sent to the Capitol Building in Washington D. C. to stop the injustice we saw happening on our TV screens in real time… Trump “denounced” the mob and didn’t send troops and justified the attack in the same ‘speech’ & tweets throughout the course of the day. Trump’s words don’t match his actions unless it is insurrection. In 2012, he called for revolution & fight like Hell & we were no longer a Democracy after Mitt Romney conceded. 2016 he promised he would concede to the results if he won. 2020 January 6th. Trump is an unpatriotic f#ck. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington would slap him across the head.

The average nurse probably knows more than the average doctor did 100 years ago so we as a civilisation know more but if we look at the kids at college and high school these days we are definitely getting stupider. Ask a college kid what 4+4 is and he will tell you it's 44.

In terms of intelligence, I don't think anything has changed. The average IQ is 100 which means that 50% of people have an IQ of less than 100. That means that a vast number of people are not particularly thoughtful or intelligent or educated. That presents problems for the rest of us that are.
