It does seem to be trying to dig a hole for itself, the population appear to be happy that politics are being allowed to pull the country apart, to foster hate, to help dig that hole faster. It is however likely to be the main country on the planet that someone arriving in the US without any money could become a millionaire. It is still very much a great country but one that manages to hate itself from within. Nearly everything is political and a conspiracy theory, in small measures those are okay, however it dominates everything in the US and people allow it to continue by throwing more on to the fire.

Usa and the north American continent is on easy mode on availability of resources. We got farmland larger than entire countries. Two major ocean shipping and the Panama canal.

It's still a first world country. I feel safe enough, and I'm in one of the states that are supposedly more dangerous (FL). I don't feel much of a security threat as I would in Mexico, or India (as a woman).

Also, I don't see as many homeless people in the streets near the same amount as there are in third world countries at all.

Homelessness depends a lot in what city you are in and the location of that city.

Big cities in particular the downtown areas tend to have lots homeless people.
