In my country I don't have to show ID just give my full name and address and be crossed off the roll as having voted.

I will have ID anyway and would not be fussed showing if asked.

It does seem extraordinary racist to claim that some sections of society are not smart enough to obtain ID.

However it is not really a big deal if I vote multiple times or someone falsely gives my name and address. We have a Court of Disputed Returns which any citizen can take a voting irregularity complaint to. The key point will be if an irregularity has compromised the accuracy of an election.

Lets suppose are there 1000 multiple votes detected.

If the winning margin was 10 then those 1000 multiple votes could have affected results the result. The court will order a by election.

If the winning margin was 10,000 than those 1,000 multiple votes has not compromised who won. So the election stands.

A few elections ago a ballot box was lost and the Court ordered the state to turn out and vote again for the Senate.

A Court of Disputed Returns with the power to remedy an irregularity with a by election is an essential ingredient in a democracy.

You have to show ID to buy alcohol or tobacco. Where I vote you have to show your drivers license or ID before you can enter the booth to vote.
