I am REALLY surprised 45% of you guys want students to have full voting rights on school boards!! I gotta admit it sounds good but I still have a lot of "what ifs?"

Advisory positions for HS kids 16 and up. If they can legally drive they can have some say. But as for voting ah no. Hell no.

For every mature HS school kid there are 10+ or so knuckleheads. I wouldn’t of trusted myself to vote on pertinent issues at 16.

Also literally no HS kid is paying property taxes to fund local school districts. I personally well above state average in property taxes for my house despite having no kids.

Do I get a say/vote on the local school board given I’m legally obligated to pay for something that doesn’t directly help me or my family?

Maybe I should join the board and veto any funding for bullshit programs (e. g. LBTQ plus half the alphabet bs) that many public schools love to waste my taxpayer money on nowadays.

Also I know there see plenty of kids attending my local school district who have parents who pay absolutely ZERO in property taxes. Maybe those parents should be banned from voting on local school boards giving their kids are getting free education on my dime.

That’s not to say I don’t want their kids getting legitimately educated. However it sure as hell better be about legitimate subject matters that make them useful to the world.

Renters don’t pay property taxes. They might have higher rents because landlords have account for high property taxes but still there are kids going to the local school district who have parents who are paying nothing in taxes to support the school.

Now of course that doesn’t mean I think their kids shouldn’t be allowed to enroll in the local school district. Of course not. Getting kids properly and EFFECTIVELY educated on reading, writing and arithmetic is extremely crucial for a well functioning society.

But again the school district better not be wasting my taxpayer money on bullshit (LBTQ plus half the alphabet programs). Again I am paying tax payer money into an education system where I have none of my own kids or relatives attending. There is no way to escape it if I want to own property.

Why should students who are not eligible to vote serve in elected positions? Of course they should have an opportunity to have their views on some topics considered by the school board but students are not sufficiently mature to make decisions for their own education. We classify them as minors and give them special legl treatment for a reason.

Students are ideally the customers of the school. I can just imagine their inputs:

• Sex on campus: OK
• Everyone gets A's
• Homework is no longer allowed
• Attendance is optional
• Every Friday is speedos and slinky dresses day.

Believe me, after 20 years I've seen STUDENT GOVTS side with the school despite protests from the students. Those who offer to serve REALLY take it seriously. They'll positively surprise you if given the opportunity!
