Personally, I’d love to see the Ukrainians defeat the Russians, but the utmost priority for them should be to keep their country intact as a nation state. Losing millions of their young people to war and emigration due to war endangers the country’s very existence. So we should be trying to achieve a negotiated peace. In addition, Ukraine is an extremely corrupt place, so there is little to no accountability for the aid sent there.
Finally, it’s not in our national interest to have Russia as an enemy of ours in alliance with China and Iran. Ukraine isn’t a national interest if the US and it’s not a NATO member.

We've been provoking this war since the 90s by pushing NATO to Russia's border, with the 2014 coup d'etat being the tipping point, and since the 2014 coup d'etat, we've done nothing to keep peace as peace isn't profitable like war.
