1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Leftist politics. Democrats control the state at every level with super-majorities and they have run the state into the ground. The cities have been obliterated, with retail businesses having left and homeless drug addicts and shoplifting gangs taken over. Tourism has been destroyed, big tech companies are fleeing and taking hundreds of thousands of job, and leaving behind lots of empty buildings that have no chance of being rented, which means they will quickly become blighted because their owners can't afford to maintain them. Many will be taken back by the bank and sold for a small fraction of its former worth and billions of dollars will just disappear.
All of this means a massive reduction in taxes being collected by the state, but the state's expenses have gone up. It turns out that being soft on crime means that crime explodes and the cost to the cities of policing, jailing, and maintaining damaged infrastructure goes way up. And letting people openly do drugs also comes with massive monetary costs to the cities.
So, who will pay for all this? The taxpayers, of course. Taxes and fees on everything has gone way up and will keep going up.
And so many on the west coast still don't get it. They complain about the problems yet it's exactly the policies they voted for.26 ReplyBS !!! Was Ronnie Ray-Guns left-wing? His policies plus the afore mentioned Proposition 13 ruined California.

It's a liberal state that caters for the wealthy at the expense of working and middle class families. It's basically legalised crime and the wealthy elites enjoy security in gated communities.
Taxes are too high, property taxes too high, house taxes too high, wages too low, food prices too high, rents too high, crime too high, utilities too high. Which is why california is having an Exodus.

I think the fact that they are the richest state in the country yet has such a high cost of living and high taxes, and of course homelessness. That makes zero sense to me. When your economy is exceptional it's supposed to be that everything is cheaper and people can afford rent, food, and gas fairly comfortably, and even having a minimum wage job would keep you afloat. But how is it that the richest and second largest state is so outrageously expensive and full of homelessness?

1 yProposition 13, which was passed in 1975 and mandated a referendum should a tax be proposed. Since there were LOTS of racist Ronnie Ray-Guns -supporting older folk there who didn't want to vote to improve schools and other services for POC, these greedy, bigoted geezers voted down almost every tax proposal for DECADES, allowing "the Golden State's" infrastructure and education, along with other services to decline year-over-year, leading the California's current dystopia.

If it was "so bad" the democrat could change the law.
but democrats AGREED and kept it even in the new situation when it is bad.
Anonymous(36-45)1 yFrom what I can tell, it's either the zombie apocalypse of homeless junkies or the insane crime issue that's come with decriminalizing crime. In third place I'd put the fact that the state burns down every year since they seem to have completely forgotten how to do forest management.

1 yBetween the high cost of living and the crime, I don't know what’s worse… Our laws give more protection to the criminals than the law abiding citizens. It’s a complete joke.

1 yHaving 40 million people and only having two senators. It's a disgraceful travesty and yet another example of our Constitution being a suicide pact.
Wyoming: 290,000 people per Senat
California: 20,000,000 "07 Reply- 1 y
Isn't there a limit of how many Senators and House Reps a state can have? If not, California could vote down a lot of stuff with an abundance of congress members.
