Could California become as messed up as New York?

I would like to eventually move to Los Angeles. The city does have a homeless problem but the driving culture there really means you don’t run into it as much as New York. I spend a lot of time out there when I can, and find that it has a much better quality of life. When I was a kid New York was one of the best cities in the country, now it’s one of the worst cities. Could this ever happen to Los Angeles? I sure hope not, and doubt it because New York had unique reasons behind the decline like the pandemic, and the timing of it when the city was already in decline.

I grew up and spent 46 years in L. A. county around the Long Beach area and Southbay. It was great. I moved in 2000.

I, personally, wouldn't want to live in any metropolitan area like down town, but they are fun to visit.

As far as finding a house or apartment in a nice area, L. A. county is large and has some really nice suburbs stretching from Long Beach all the way north to Antelope Valley. You've got Pasadena, Westside cities, cities in the eastern part, the Southbay, ...

And, as you said, people drive. So there are an unlimited number of amazing things to see and do.

Anywhere there are more people there will be more issues. But honestly, as far as simple crime stats the Bible Belt is where the action is. Even just measuring violent crime.

New York and Cali are pretty safe tbh. Just expensive as fuck.

New York lost more residents at 100k last year. California 75k, and the state is much bigger.

The only nice thing about LA is the parties and the houses. People are MEAN there and very clique

Well Cali isn't where you'd want to go is it? If there is a decline in America alone would you think it'd be hard to sustain much in cali?

Like a recession? That would be bad but New York where I live had the worse economic decline nationally. I’m asking if it could ever get as bad as New York?

It's not as bad as Detroit so I guess you'd be fine but cali isn't a go to place unless you're rich

Yeah New York is much worse than California in everywhere besides the fact that California has slightly more homeless people.

It is already messed up. The citizens of Oakland just threatened to stop paying taxes if the city did not do something about the crime.

I mean California is more successful than New York. I think New York is worse also due to the culture, like everything is public, always on public transportation, in public parks, they aren’t really private areas. Due to that it’s really uncomfortable. New York wasn’t that bad before the pandemic either. You don’t really have to deal with the public very much in LA, especially if you know people. I think LA is more relevant, and NYC fell apart due to it not being needed due to technology, like you could just work from home instead of living in a dirty diseased gang run place, where you can’t avoid people.

It’s really taken a turn for the worst here, especially in the last year. It’s declined in a shockingly rapid form. Really miserable.

Oh yes it is. The crime, the litter, the cost of living, the overall quality of life. SoCal is not doing well at all.

Mississippi, Louisiana, are pretty bad. I don’t know how true that is. New York would be screwed either way because of the pandemic.

New York was the epicenter of Covid, ruining the city, and that also ruined the state.

New York was in a steep decline and losing to states like California, and Florida, before the pandemic for about a decade. When the pandemic came it killed New York, most of the tax base left, and mostly illegals moved instead of desirable residents. Businesses never recovered, and it got ugly like Detroit.
