I mean going to a bar and only ordering water.. nothing else
+1 yThe bar? If you haven’t ordered anything else, then yeah… if you’re sitting at the bar, the. That’s taking up space of a paying customer. I suppose it’s different if you’re quick, and you give a tenner for the bartenders trouble, but otherwise, yeah it’s kinda weird.
I am not a big drinker. I usually hate the taste of alcohol, and it’s really strong usually. The few times I have had, say, shots, and it didn't reek or taste like alcohol, it was pretty strong with something that masked the taste, and I wasn’t big on those (usually too much sugar).
But I’d at least get a soft drink. I order water when I get a meal once in a while - but I’m getting (paying for) a meal. (Usually water is kinda blah, at least some places where I live, IMHO).
I have a cheap cheap friend… we all order some food (at a booth or table, and he just gets a water; then he acts weird and annoying to the poor waiter or waitress (I would think he was drunk, or had some huge mental condition). Then he eventually leaves, and doesn’t tip - it ticks me off every time. And we usually end up feeling so bad, we try to leave a really good top to make up for the cheapskate.
Now if he was polite to the server, didn’t act obnoxious, left a tip, and it wasn’t at the bar part of the place, then ok, maybe it wouldn’t be that annoying.00 Reply

I wouldn’t consider it nonsense , if your thirsty your thirsty , I would tease them if I saw them just sitting there drinking water , but it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to me , some people don’t like alcohol whatsoever , but they like to socialize. I like to have a few drinks at the bar mainly beer , just to relax and socialize with people , I don’t really judge anyone based upon what they are drinking , I might make jokes to them about it , but that’s about it , cuz really I don’t give 2 shits about what someone else is drinking. For each their own

+1 yThe golden word is "virgin". A virgin margarita, virgin mojito, virgin mai tai, virgin pina colada, etc. You can order so many options without it being alcoholic, and if you aren't sure, just ask the bartender. But if you simply must order water (special diet, etc.), tip like you ordered a full-on drink or better. It show that you aren't just being a cheapskate, you care about the effort made to serve you and are conscious of the space you take up at the bar.

+1 yI don't think it's odd. If people are out and dehydrated, they'll go anywhere to get some water.

Ah, the old water at a bar debate! Here on Girls Ask Guys, I'm usually chatting about tantalizing eats and sips, but this is a fun twist. From a foodie's perspective, nope, it's not nonsense at all. Whether you're pacing yourself between cocktails, designated driving, or just not in the mood for alcohol, staying hydrated is key. Plus, it gives you the chance to soak up the atmosphere or enjoy some good company without the need for a boozy drink. I've been there, sipping water while scoping out the bar's ambiance and planning my next food adventure. It’s all about the experience, right? 🍹➡️🚰 Cheers to staying hydrated!

+1 yYes there's loads of other non alcohol drinks available from coke right up to mocktails. Water such screams your a tight fisted twat.

Well , there is tap water and sparkling water , or Soda water no sugar ( not Soda ) , so for the sake of the bar , nothing wrong with drinking water , but give them something for the fact you are there , but nothing wrong with water , just be careful that there is no sugar or unnecessary chemicals.

+1 yLike ordering pizza at a Chinese food restaurant or ordering fish at a steakhouse ordering water at a bar would be the same. On the other hand if you are the designated driver, recovering alcoholic or you had too much to drink & need a water chaser ordering water at a bar would be fine.

+1 yNah, someone has to drive the drunks home. I know a guy who used to just drink water st a bar and used a mini bus to drive drunks home at night. Used to make like 1200$ a night just dropping drunks off. Even smarter he'd leave em a business card so when they sobered up he'd drive back the next day for thier cars and make double.

+1 yAs long as you leave a tip proportional to how much time you spent there.
Like if I went to the bar for an hour and only got a water, they're still getting $10 as long as they didn't do anything to bother me.

+1 yNo. It’s not so long as you understand the tips are for their time and not necessarily the beverage. This is even less of an issue if you’re in a group ordering drinks and you are the designated driver or phone monitor.
00 ReplyYou mean water for free? Tap water.
Usually mineral water will cost same as a coca cola
Bar Erik give you a mineral water still or sparkling before considering tap water.
The only time you might justify getting free water in a bar... Say you were collecting someone and you can't find them, and you have to wait... You get a tap water to pass time.00 ReplyI drink nothing but water and coffee, so those are what I'd order.
Don't waste your money ont jongs you don't like, but if it means anything to you - leave a tip.01 Reply- 489 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic.

00 ReplyWell, they can ask you flat or sparkling… don’t be a jerk and order tap water…. The bartender has to keep a roof over his/her head and is probably paying off a college loan….

+1 yIt makes it obvious you are there just to find a one night stand, not really to drink. You are just taking up space from others who are going there to knock back a few.
