If women aren't lying to men, men are lying to women. If you're not lying to your boss, your boss is lying to you. You wake up each day trying to get over on 50 people or 50 people are waking up each day trying to get over you.

In an environment of scarcity, yes, competition is king. But if people do the work to create abundance that goes out of fashion quickly. The problem is people who take pride in winning that competition will become meaningless if the competition becomes unnecessary, so they use their power over resources to ensure scarcity remains a constant.
