Would you get involved with possible domestic violence?

There is a young couple that live upstairs from me. Every now and then, it seems that he is either chasing her and she's running from him, or she is running a marathon. I sometimes hear banging and thudding. I hear it through my ceiling and walls, and it's really annoying. I have thought of calling a domestic hotline and report it, because police here really don't do much about this kind of thing unless you hear shots or something.

I also have to note that they are either middle eastern or Indian, not sure which, but they are not from here and speak a different language. So in these cultures, sometimes it is acted that the male beat up the female when he feels like she is not doing something right. I feel badly for her because no one should live like that.

What would you do in my case? Ignore it? report it? To whom?

If it annoyed me I'd report it. Otherwise I'd just ignore it. In the modern age virtually no one is "trapped" in this situation. Which means she chooses this life over the unknown. And that is her choice. It would be pointless to interfere unless it was annoying me.

It does annoy me because that running is clearing heard on my ceiling and honestly it sounds as if the ceiling is going to come down.

I'd keep calling the police. Even if they seemingly aren't doing much about it, at the minimum it is being documented, which could be critical later.

My ex was an absolute abusive monster. I'm with a good guy now and I love him but often I miss the drama with my ex, the beatings, the rapes, the lies, the cheating, the danger, the excitement, the domination, the craziness, the sex, the sex. I did things sexually with him for him I'd never do with my boyfriend, stuff that I'm ashamed of.

Report it to put it on the cops radar in case a body shows up but otherwise unless you are going to assume responsibility for her you risk making things worse by getting him removed.

I have told my other neighbor about this, and she says don't do anything--you don't know if he has a gun. I seriously don't think he would. But is angers me that she lets that happen. She should just leave the MFer.

Yeah, it's a "devil you know" situation sometimes. But in general if she had the sense of security and self worth she would need to leave she wouldn't have gotten into the relationship in the first place. Unless you are willing to teach those things to her getting the husband removed will leave her completely flailing. It could turn out well but it also could not.

I've been in this situation before many years ago with our neighbors next door in our apartment complex. We ended up calling the police and letting them handle it. From what I remember the wife/girlfriend (whatever she was to him) didn't want to pursue any charges or denied it was happening and the police just left.

Probably, especially if it's involving a kid or sexual violence. I don't give a shit who they are, man or woman, middle eastern, white or orange. You manage to bring me into this, your ass is mine and you won't like how it ends.

Now if the violence is towards a loved one, the abuser will be lucky to survive.

I would ignore it. It's their business what they do, or don't do. Unless you see him or her physically injured (ex: bruises, black eye), there's really nothing you can, or should, do.
