As someone who actually worked on the grant applications which serve as the primacy source of power of the Federal Department of Education.

I can say not only is this expenditure unconstitutional under the 11 page federal constitution, it has been ultimately destructive to the American education system. A 'education' which has been going downhill ever sense the Feds started doing this in the 1960's for the simple reason.

This money and the strings attached inhibit both feasibility and accountability of all parties at all levels of goverment.

Resulting in leaders at all levels just pointing to everyone else for their failed education policy, while at the same time being largely prevented from any more effective a policy by the same restrictions and conflicting policy interests.

Its a highly dysfunctional system that required a high level of uniformity and cooperation across an entire content of conflicting Cultural, political, economic, and geographic circumstances. Which of course is why it never happened, and never will happen.

Just look at the educational system now a brick is smarter than most High School grads. Then they go into debt for tens if not a hundred thousand dollars for a woke college dumbifacation. A lot of employers ask what school you graduated from because they will not hire from a lot of colleges because of the woke education, they want people who work not protest. Get rid of the D O E!

it could be better. Eliminating it won't fix things though. I don't think I would like to know the consequences of the elimination of the department of education. Plus for most entry jobs require at least a highschool level education.

What would make it better?

Free school meals for all students especially students that rely on schools being their only source of food because their parents can't always afford to feed them a complete meal. Usually rich student families don't have to worry about their child not eating a whole day while the families with less income actually do worry their child will have nothing to eat for a whole day.

Raising teacher's salary to compensate for the extra work hours off the 8 hour school day because of planning, grading, and scheduling, plus resupplying of tools needed for kids to be able to do their work. Mostly all extra supplies aren't being donated to teachers by stores teachers have to buy those things out of pocket. With that being said mostly all school supplies would be much better if they were cheaper during the school year

There should be more curriculums geared toward a well paying job outside of highschool that they can immediately be qualified for upon completion of the course. Usually the kids have to complete this course at a trade school after high school so why not offer the job training courses while they're in school so they'll have more understanding of how things work. Most kids are left having to work minimum wage jobs that let's face it hardly even pay rent while attending college and i just don't think it's affordable for them.

It would also be better for schools to not push kids through grades knowing they aren't ready to move on to the next grade yet, and if the kid is failing and showing they are unmotivated to even be at school usually skipping school late to first class everyday offer resources and help for the kid. They could be depressed so naturally they won't always be able to do their best in class.

1) If the kid has no food I think there's greater problems than schoolwork. Either their parent's can't or won't provide for their kids. What's happening to their food stamps? We already provide free to low cost meal plans for kids that need it. I find this to be a dubious issue.
2) As teachers salaries have increased educational achievement has decreased. It's been happening for almost the last half century. If more money meant better results the US would have the greatest education in the world (almost we're 4th).

The Federal department of education doesn't educate anyone, they issue grants with strings attached which then State departments of education and local school have to fall over themselfs to qualify and apply for.

The net effect of which is we have 3 different sets of politicians with power over education all of which point to everyone else every-time their policy fails while being prevented from reform by he conflicting polices of everyone else.

There is a reason our education system has been going down hill since Washington created the federal department of education in the 1960s.

It has removed accountability and hogtied everyone to effectively prevent anyone form carrying out real reform among the conflict policy interest.

This was never going to work, and it never has for most of us.

The federal department of education doesn't manage schools. They hold carrots of money known as "grants" out in exchange for school's doing what their leaders 1000 miles away.

Actually elected State & local local school leaders then have to jump thou hoops to get such money rather than enact and take full responsibility for their own reforms.

That responsibility is a big thing, because if ever any of them fail as they do all the time under this system, they always point to everyone else saying they couldn't do what they needed to do or didn't get the money.

You would have to be an idiot to think this works very often across an entire continent of different local Economic, cultural, geographic, ideological circumstances.

But the politicians involved are too greedy for power over schools to stop fighting over it.
