I love birthdays because I am around the people that I love. It's a day in which I feel I am special, at least for some people. Even though I found birthdays amazing, I know a lot of people who hate to celebrate. What do you think the reason may be? Are they scared to get old?
Do you like to celebrate? Why, or why not? What's your opinion?
Ps: If you don't know why we blow candles on our BD, here is the reason: Blowing out birthday candles is rooted in Greek and German customs, believed to send wishes to the gods and signify the light of life with an extra candle for good luck.
Ehhhh... as a child/teen I used to LOVE it because I loved being the center of attention, but now I really don't like being the center of attention anymore.
I'll treat myself on my birthday sure, but I don't wanna invite a bunch of people over or anything.
And I also don't really like the idea of feeling obligated to be happy no matter how I actually feel just because it's that one day of the year.
So at this point to me my birthday is just another day, though I will still eat cake and stuff.
I love birthdays - other people's!! Or at least I used to. Now I celebrate mine thanks to my mother-in-law!
She knew I hated my birthday and never wanted to celebrate it. One year she pulled me aside, grab me by the shoulders and looked into my eyes and she said "Don't you get it? Your birthday has absolutely nothing to do with you! It's a chance for other people to say we're glad you're here!". I've had very few epiphanies in my life but that was the most incredible moment! It really was like everything became instantaneously clear and I understood on a very deep level.
Now I happily celebrate my birthday and I really miss my mother-in-law...🥲
I don’t plan a whole party but I will 100% take the day for myself and whatever I want to do, no work, no responsibilities beyond what I’ve accepted at home.
I don't really celebrate mine I kind of forget about mine until like a week after it happened
For me it's just a waste of time I mean I could be doing something positive then sitting around doing nothing
Waiting to have birthday cake I can build a cake anytime of the week no I just there's more important things to do than worry about my birthday plus I never remember how old I am anyway I'm either 45 or 46 LOL I don't have enough fingers and toes to figure it out
My birthday is the first of January; in childhood, everyone was too tuckered out from Christmas to do much, and in adulthood, everyone's too wiped out from New Year's. So it's less about "celebration" in the usual sense, and more about reflection.
And frankly, I think the reason people are so apprehensive about them is less about fear of death and more about the fact that there's just no wine that goes well with birthday cake.
I used to love celebrating my birthday. But that all changed - My birthday is May 22. My dad passed away on May 23 from esophageal cancer 💔😢😢😢😢. Since then I can’t enjoy my birthday because I know what happened the day after it. 💔😢
None of my friends celebrate each other's birthdays anymore. Most have kids now and are busy celebrating the kids birthdays. Once you get into your later 20's, birthdays don't matter much around here anymore.
