Because it's what their core support base responds to the most. From the noble idea of "the downtrodden and pariahed should be welcomed", they've degenerated into "victimhood is a source of social status". This is why so much of their rhetoric around gays is militaristic- they speak of "allies", as though the brain-dead conservatives who think gay marriage is an affront to God were planning on starting up roving homosexual murder squads. It's why they go out of their way to make it seem like women are under attack even in areas where they have more rights than men do.

The truly sad part is that it works. I mean, if abortion's exceptionally important to you, that's fine, but to pretend that the only reason to oppose it is to "want to control women", while the thirteenth Amendment gets openly ignored in the form of the SS, says you're brainwashed AT BEST.

Harris is way behind Trump in the two most important issues for Americans. The economy and the southern border/. Some polls have her behind by double digits. Abortion is a distant third but Americans like Harris's policy on abortion more than Trump and I guess they are trying to get more traction from this. I guess people want to kill babies after they are born.
