Polling indicates that abortion is the most important issue for women in the USA right now. But why? What puts it ahead of other issues?

Other issues include:

1. The economy. Federal interest payments on the debt have exceeded the defense budget for the first time ever. Historically, this is around the time that empires collapse due to lack of funding, with all the foreign and domestic problems that that entails.

2. The border, and how it benefits corporations and how "catch and release" can affect voting. JD Vance went into detail on this on JRE

3. Big Pharma and how it's quite similar to the United Fruit Company of yesteryear, in terms of its colonization-levels of exploitation. Eg. They test their vaccines on Africans in the interest of "helping them" but it's a wolf in sheep's clothing, because the Africans are getting polio from them.

4. The environment, obesity, mental health, the fear over censorship, foreign policy (becoming more critical these days then in 2001, in my opinion). And so on...

Abortion is largely a religious issue. How many progressive and liberal muslims are there? How would the typical muslim view align on abortion? With the christians, right?

Decades of Democrat-aligned control of the media has painted abortion, in the minds of the populace, as being about "controlling women's bodies", and even the slightest restriction on it anywhere is seen as an attack. This is SO well-entrenched that you've had dozens of high-profile people (including Kamala Harris herself) over the years saying things like "men don't face any similar restrictions on what they can do with THEIR bodies!", despite the SS being active for over a century.

There've been multiple times, over the last fifty years, where the Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress AND the White House, and yet not once have they passed a law protecting abortion rights. Why? Because it's far too useful as a political tool; tell women the terrible Republicans are out to get them, and they'll scurry off to vote Democrat, regardless of any other issues pressing at the time.

The truly depressing part is how well it works; it's being used even against the terrible Orange Man, who has specifically come out as pro-abortion, simply because he's a Republican- and it seems to be working. Of course, said women might have voted for Democrats for other reasons, but you never hear them complaining about the manipulation OR the condescension behind it.

Most issues have solutions that are more or less acceptable to both liberals and conservatives, while abortion is polarizing, with some people in favor and others strongly opposed.

Abortion directly affects women, so yeah. Women are going to make it a priority when you mess with that right that directly affects them. That’s like asking why civil rights is important to black people.

I think that this is overblown. Maybe younger women think it is important and they are the ones that usually get on TV about it. Married women with families would rather have lower grocery prices and safer streets.
