I believe it is true. There is this quote I read online and it does like this “People only rain on your parade because they're jealous of your sun and tired of their shade.”

I think “Your parade” means your life

“Your Sun” means your happiness

”Tired of their shade” means they are tired of feeling sad and their shade is their sadness.

It’s basically saying miserable people feel jealous seeing other people live happier lives than their own.

yeah it's true. the old saying "misery loves company" rings true and if you've ever hung around happy people you realise very quickly that happy people lift others up they don't try to drag others down

I guess it's possible that they are "more likely" too intentionally do that.

But I think there are a lot unhappy people who make other people around them unhappy unintentionally.

When someone is unhappy it's often hard for them to be around other people because they have a difficult time making believe that they're happy. And that's what you have to do in social situations to prevent other people from feeling uncomfortable around you.

If they have no choice but to be around other people they may feel bad because they don't want them to feel uncomfortable. So that makes them feel even worse because it's not their intention.

I don’t think they do it intentionally. Naturally, when we’re feeling down and lack control over our emotions, we tend to attract more of what we’re feeling and misery loves company. They want to complain and have someone listen, validate their feelings, and encourage them to do the same. They don’t always realize that doing so can make the other person upset, they just don’t want to be alone.

I think the most unhappy people, especially those who don't talk about their problems will make others happy because they don't want them to feel how they feel so they put on a happy face.

I know they say Misery loves company but I think they only apply to those who hate the people around them because you would never make someone you care about unhappy just because you are unhappy.

Depends on the person.

Some unhappy people are well aware they can be a burden on others. They tend to self isolate (and they can also be embarrassed about something).

Then other unhappy people want others to be miserable as well to feel better about themselves. Bullies can be like this but so can middle aged “cat ladies”.

No, its bullshit. Trying to justify negative behaviours is a pointless task. There are hundreds of reasons someone could be unhappy or just lashing out.

The only important thing is they are not spiralling into threats and misdeeds.

I wouldn't give those people that much credit. I think some people are just toxic and don't know how to be any other way. I try to remind people to feel sorry for those people. Because while you have to endure thier toxicity for a few moments. Those people have to be themselves for a lifetime. Think about how miserable that is.
