President Trump shut down the 100 billion dollar spending bill that will prevent a government shutdown until March. He and Elon Musk claim it is loaded with waste and unnecessary spending. Are you happy that somebody is trying curb needless waste in the government or would you rather they just rubber stamped this monster bill and increase the debt even more?
2.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It all depends on what they believe to be considerable waste. They are both billionaires and what they think is waste might be lifesaving for someone else who depends on what they are going to eliminate. Could be disasterous for a lot of people.

And the best part that no one mentioned is that congresspeople's emails could not be subpoenaed for any reason. Your email my email can be subpoenaed for any reason but theirs can't that stinks to high heaven. Fifteen hundred pages of PORK BARREL SPENDING and less than a day to read it just like Pelosi did with Obama care her words were vote it and then read it and look at the screwing the people got on that one, we are still getting screwed by that. Plus this bill was tacked on hundreds of millions in pork barrel spending for every other country but our own again that has been done for the last ten years as a present to THE DEMOCRATIC COMMUNIST PARTY OF AMERICA.

That sounds like a good idea, an absolute nightmare for the people on capital hill... but aren't they trying to push a pay raise into it? Time to earn that Christmas bonus! We work for it anyway, and the no taxes on overtime hasn't been passed.00 Reply- 9.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.

1 yI think the practice of shoving a bunch of shit inside of a single bill, a bill that's so long nobody is going to logically read it all, should be removed. They should vote on every single issue as stand-alone issues. Trans gender rights in Iran money shouldn't be stacked with something like their own salaries.
Also there is no way to hold the individuals voting for bullshit accountable without them voting on single issues at a time. I mean seriously, they don't even know what's in those giant bills.
That's my take on it, and it has nothing to do with Democunts or Republifucks.00 ReplyBiden shouldnāt be getting paid to sleep at the beach every day.

@BuggerBoy at best dance on the grave but (avoiding fed post) is too much. Even all three recent attempts and one assassination wasn't card carrying leftist. It's easy to say they are closer to conservative then blue hair liberal.
1 yAll of Congress are a bunch of tossers. I can't see them getting a fat raise when no one else does? Their salary should be reliant on how well the economy is. These bunch of goose eggs should get a raise when people still can't afford to buy food or pay their rent?

1 yYes. Trump isn't president yet so I don't know he has the power to do anything about a bill pending right now but I am all for the government not wasting our tax money.
I know how corrupt politicians try to push these end of session bills through with all kinds of waste and special pork projects where they do favors for donors and push stuff through that was never discussed.
I am all for cutting out corruption and dirty politics and government waste.

1 yStopgap measures are rarely good. Congress and the Biden Administration have the Constitutional responsibility to prepare and pass a budget before the previous budget expires. They should be held to that.
Current law makes a government shutdown no big deal, since about 90% of the government conti8nues to operate. How about repealing that and having government fully shutdown when there is no budget. That would force Congress and the President to pass a budget before it expires.
00 Reply 5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. President-elect Musk almost shut down the government without getting a single vote.
If you have a small majority in a democracy, you can only pass what the most moderate members of your party will allow or you need votes from the other side. That's how it works!

1 yYes. It's perplexing that we would need a bill of ~1,500 pages just to say "continue as before", so you KNOW that something is amiss with 1,499 pages of the ol' pork barrel. And members of Congress trying to give themselves a healthy boost due to "inflation" - heck, they CAUSED much of it. Since "PROgress" means moving forward, what does that make "CONgress"?

1 yIt's not the bill. These are all tests for fluffers Congress.
How far will they go to support Dear Leader?
How much musk interference will they tolerate?
How are these stunts playing with various groups like evangelicals, military, uneducated white males, the biz elite, etc
This is a test for autocracy. GOP is dead. Long live MAGA! Right?02 ReplyYup. The uniparty is on its way out to the benefit of the country.

It is different from 1929 and the consequences will play out gradually. One direct consequence is forcing the banks to hold large amounts of treasury bonds since Dodd-Frank, which was written when interest rates were 0%. This helped soak up debt that used to be taken by foreign governments. However, the banks are in serious trouble because, as should have been entirely foreseeable but was not for our political class, interest rates went up, radically decreasing the value of the bonds that were supposed to be safe assets. Given that interest rates have fluctuated on a multi-generational cycle since before the Revolution and will trend up for many more decades, the bonds that are supposed to be the safe assets for the banks will never regain their value.
Also, thanks to Dodd-Frank, there is a mechanism to ābail inā the banks by confiscating depositorsā cash and giving them shares in the banks. We can expect this to be used during the inevitable banking crisis and it will be a horrible problem for many people with money in the large banks. This is probably the first of many problems related to the debt.
Debt is always paid one way or another. The US is no exception.
