And before I explain my answer (which, full disclosure, will be lengthy), I'll add my usual disclaimer that I am a practicing Catholic who is committed to Church teaching on abortion and waited until marriage for sex. Make of my opinion what you will.

I don't particularly believe in the notion of "accidental pregnancy". Condoms break (as one user has already noted his own personal experience on this very thread) and birth control isn't 100% effective. "Pulling out" doesn't work, having sex standing up doesn't work. Sex leads to babies, plain and simple. Sure, it might not happen every single time, but that is the natural, objective end of sex. This, consequently, is one reason among many why I have such a huge problem with feminism and the abortive and contraceptive mentalities that have been cultivated in the world today. They've formed women to think that biology is their enemy. That and now both men and women have lost respect and reverence for this, dare I say, super-power that they have, to create life with each other, and ultimately, just each other period.

This is also why I have an even bigger problem with the way pro-choicers engage in these situations. They act as though those of us who oppose abortion have no experience with or engagement in real-life situations, or that we haven't been affected by them. Case in point: my great-grandmother. "Nona", as we called her, was born in January 1916. My paternal grandfather, her eldest, was born in December 1932, so do the math; whether Nona was raped, coerced, or pressured, I don't know. The bag of living human waste that was Nona's first husband was an unfaithful and horrifically abusive alcoholic. From what I've gathered, he did in fact run out on the family, only to show up at her doorstep later demanding a divorce so he could re-marry.

The bottom line here is that I am not unsympathetic or alien to the "hard cases" which inevitably come up.

With all that having been said, you say that guys who would take the kid are sick. I say THAT itself is sick. I'll go on all day long about how people should wait until marriage to have sex. Many will likely reply with "it's 2024, bro! Get with the program!" If, however, they get pregnant and the man says "I need to step up to the plate, this is my responsibility" and takes care of the child, then I COMMEND HIM! Whether they have issues later on is anyone's guess. But that won't stop me, especially in a day and age saturated with pessimism (to say the least) about men, from giving credit where it's due.

The problem is, if You are certain of the outcome, the actual responsible decision would be not to have sex anymore. It can be done, You know. If I live like that for... well, my whole life, then it can easily be done for just some period in life. In case You are not certain about the outcome, but simply have a bad feeling about it, abortion in case of a direct threat to the mother's life is acceptable (only it should be regarded as a life-saving action and as such, I believe it should be either free or at least affordable).
