If a woman is in an abusive relationship but does nothing if the boyfriend harms, rapes or kills her child isn't she just as guilty too?

If she just stands there and lets the abusive boyfriend harm, rape or even kill her own child... isn't she just as guilty too? Yes we get that she's stuck in an abusive relationship but how much more can she allow? Harm or even death upon her own child and do nothing?

I'm tired of hearing that on the news. I actually stopped feeling sorry for her once an innocent child is harmed or killed. She still had the option to leave and take the child with her or grab a heavy, blunt object and smash it on his head, anything but just standing there, watching it happening and do nothing. She would go as far as giving her life for her child to live.

Not necessarily.

It's a case by case basis for mitigation. It could be she's mentally unwell, could be she's the one who brought the case, or was not there during the crimes, etc etc.

You need to understand that what is brought to court isn't the whole picture, only the prosecutors case. If you have one standing trial and not the other, then you only need know the court has a strong enough reason to not convict the other.

Why the hell you think violence is going to solve the case, is something you need therapy for. Seems you don't know how justice works, and have been watching too many shitty movies and soaps.

Let's say the mother is watching in horror with her own eyes that her boyfriend is abusing, raping and then proceeding to killing her own child but she does nothing. She stands there doing nothing but watches until he finishes doing that horrible act. Her excuse is that she was scared for her life that she did nothing but waited till he was done.

if it's just 1 v 1 between a bully and their victim, more often than not the victim can handle themselves better

but a bystander who does nothing, yet makes fun of the situation or yet acts as a false witness to declare it was the victim's fault is what breaks the camels back eventually

There should definitely be charges. As a mother, I can't see myself ever standing by and watching my child be harmed and doing nothing because I'm scared for myself. My job is to protect my child.

Finally someone that gets it. Indeed. Her failure to protect her own child (harm done to her child should override her own fear) is already an unsuitable mother, unfit to ever have the rights to have a child again in the future.

I would not say that she is JUST as guilty. But I do think a parent like that still deserves life imprisonment.

Exactly. Failing to protect your own child is already the 2nd worst thing you can do to your kid.

Unfort that is seen as a universal right. I think we need to start thinkng about child abuse in a larger way. Like having a child in poverty is child abuse
